Hey guys,
I got 3600 miles on my 02 Viper, Compression is 120 , 120, 110 (pto)
She just doesn't have the snap she once had.
I want to throw in a new set of rings, If Cylinders still look good, do I need to hone ? Can I just clean and put in new rings ?
Should I replace head & cylinder gaskets ? Can I reuse any of them ?
I was not planning on putting in wrist pins, bearings etc, opinions any other advise ?
Thanks

3600 miles in my opinion you are due for rings, and i would definitely de glaze the cylinders, as far as gaskets i feel they are cheap and would never reuse a old gasket, i think youll be fine with wrist pins and small bearings, jus be sure to check ring end gap before assembly, i cant remember for sure but im thinking it should be about .012, but double check that number

Do not reuse the wrist pins circlips once they have been removed, replace them. If you reuse an old clip and it comes loose, you will wish you had replaced it since you will lilely need a new piston and cylinder. Get a copy of the manual. Once you have the top end apart, measure the various critical dimesions such as the piston dia., wrist pin dia., etc. Once it is apart you might as well check the parts before reassembly. If you don't have the right measuring tools, any decent machine shop should be able to help you with the measurements. DON"T use a hammer and drive pin to remove the wrist pins, get a wrist pin puller. Use new gaskets, why risk the limited riding time on old gaskets. Clean everything up nice and shiny, squeaky clean and reassemble. The manual will tell you the right torque specs.. Lubricate the moving parts with two stroke oil. I am in the process of rebuilding an SRX engine completely. Someone on this site will be able to send you an electronic copy of the manual. While you working on the engine, clean you carbs.
