Took the sled out again today and noticed it making a sort of rumbling noise as youre going along. Figured the track might have been too tight so I brought it back in the garage and re did it. Took it back out, same noise. Only way I can think of to describe it, is if youve ever had aggresive mud tires on your truck, when youre slowing down...that noise/vibration. Also, when the track seems tight, its starting to compress the transfer rods. It will go from zero gap to about 1/8" gap when the track is tightened. Is that normal? and any ideas what the noise may be? Bearings are all good, just swapped in a diff track this year.

Track is a .920(I think) Viper track w/ 144 studs.

loosen track til it ratchets (thumping sound when hard on the gas)than tighten half a turn at a time til it stops ratcheting and than good to go ....other wise if too tight you will kill a set of sliders in a few hundred miles ....

I have found that my ripsaw makes a hum at high speeds and also on hard packed as you slow down, it gets fairly rumbly. I am hoping thats normal.

never thought of the idler wheels rolling over the base of the studs, good thought.

pipdviper- yes it was a packed/hard trail

glad this is normal, was kinda worried

you can also tell if track is to tight by trying to rotate by hand when up on stand and no belt on.Also if the track rotates or jerks slowly around when on stand, that is fine also.
