CDI for 01 SRX

2001 and 2002 CDI box

I was in your same position last year, thinking that I needed a box for my 2000 - only to find out later that it was the stator.

In the process I learned that 98 and 99 were the same box, that the 2000 box was different for that year only, and then the 2001 and 2002 box are interchangeable between 2001 and 2002 only. So just in case you didn't know that - I wouldn't want you to get a box from someone with good intentions, but it won't plug in because the number of pins is incorrect.

And if anyone out there needs a CDI box for a 2000 model year, I have a spare because as it turns out it wasn't the CDI box to begin with.
 
Thanks for the heads up but i tried mine on another 2001 and it didn't work so it must be the problem thanks, my dealer told me 2001 and 2002 do not have the same part number, so i figure 2001 is the only 1 i can use???
 
That might not be correct

From what I recall of my problem last year, the 2001 and 2002 are the same part. What you can do is go to the parts listing available from the Yamaha shop in Port Washington, WI and look up both part numbers there. There is a link on this site to the Port Washington site.

I would agree that if you tried it on another machine and it didn't work, then that is more than likely the problem. Even though it is expensive, it could be worse because there isn't much labor involved in pulling it off and plugging another one in.

The 2001 + 2002 SRX CDIs are not the same part number.
The 2002 SRX CDI has the DCS function the 2001 CDI does not.
The 2001 + 2002 CDIs will plug into each others wiring harnesses as they have the same connectors.
The 2001 CDI will work in a 2002 but the sleds DCS will be inop [some people did this to elliminate the DCS] but I don't believe the 2002 CDI will function properly in a 2001.
 
I just checked PortYamaha's parts listing and it lists part number 8DN-85540-20-00 for both the 2001 and 2002 model year. $527.73 list price - ouch! The 2000 model year's part number has the same front digits, but ends with 10-00.

I just checked the part numbers on a seperate sight and got the same results...very strange as they were definately different CDIs.
Either its an error in the parts micro fiche or Yamaha must be out of one of the CDIs[I suspect the 2002] and subbing the other box!?

I have the actual numbers at home [I have a at least one of each] but I am out of town for a few more days.

I do remember:

the 2001 as a 8DN-20
the 2002 as a 8DN-30

I will post again when I get home.

This was bugging me so I called home ang had "The Bride" check my notes on my parts inventory.

2001 SRX CDI [NO DCS] Part #: 8DN-85540-20-00

2002 SRX CDI [DCS].... Part #: 8DN-85540-30-00

I have a 02 srx. I am curently running an 01 cdi. I am wondering if even though the boxes will both plug in that since the dcs is disabled it wont rev past 8000 rpms. Reason I say this is beacuse if you disconnect the dcs on my sled it will not rev past 8000rpm's. I can't this year to get it to rev past 8000. I am going to put my 02 cdi back in and try it. Also I have both cdi's in front of me and they are different part #'s.
