srx pulls hard 8500 rpm then falls flat 100mph.has stock gears would gear change work? just a enbarasment after all i read on here should i be faster?
Both 200lbs guys i need HELP

Hey , if your racing a mountain sled in 10 inches of snow you will looze everytime ...
What's the surface like , you try him on hard pack?

hard pack on lake groomed and dragged perfect conditions just seems to top out at 100 mph even had my kid run him at 110 lbs and the ski donkey still walked away
what's in your clutches now

WELL, WHEN EVERYTHING ELSE FAILS BUD, ONLY WAY TO GAIN SLED LENGTHS IS THROUGH CLUTCHING. I MUST TELL YA THE STOCK SET-UP IN A 99 SRX WAS AWFUL. GO OVER TECH PAGE AND LOOK UP SET-UPS THAT ARE BEING USED IN A 99. 3:16 (yammie tony)

yea .what will 21-40 gears do for me?
Curring a slow sled is not as easy as it may sound...I just spent over 2 years tracking down and curing my 2002 SRXs performance issue.
For a slow sled you will have to take a systematic approach to find + cure the problem and I would suggest it is not just one problem! We also have to realize 100 mph isn't that slow for most sleds, LOL !, but it is an SRX!
When the stock SRXs were running 110mph+ remember they were all relatively new, and had light weight, flexible 7/8" tracks. Adding bigger lug tracks, longer travel and just normal wear will scrub off a lot of speed.
Top speed is an indication of Horse Power, if the engine is down on its power for any reason it won't pull on the high end, and acts like it hits a wall at a given speed.
Possible Engine issues:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-if the engine has not been reringed it probably needs it
-also the 1998/99 SRXs had a crank phaze issue, it needs to be checked!
-weak stator output
-improper jetting
Other possible causes + things to check:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-worn belt or improper belt tension...if the belt sits too low in the secondary the sled will not shift out properly
-worn out clutches will bind and create huge performance losses
-engine + clutch allignment
-broken motor mounts... a broken motor mount will throw off engine allignment and can cause belt wear and really hurts top end
-ski allignment...toe in especially really hurts top end
-worn sliders
-track tension allignment...the track should be set only tight enough to stop ratcheting
-suspension settings...if the front limiter straps are out too far it really creates a lot of friction between the sliders + the track and hurts on the high end...a lot
-friction is the enemy of top speed so every bearing in the sled has to be in top condition...especially the jack shaft, drive shaft, and chain case bearings
When you come up against some sled on the lake you never know what he may have done to it...whats on the hood a lot of time means very little. To know how your sled is really performing you have to be comparing apples to apples.
Take the older F7 Cats...they have been around long enough that they have definately needed to be rebuilt and it is so simple to make them an 800 that any owner would be amiss not to do it when rebuilding! So be very suspicious of any F7 thats been taking everyone on.

check your power valves
I beleive stock gearing:
on the 98/99 700 SRXs was 23/37 = 1.61 : 1
theoryretical top speed[no over drive] = 110 to 112 mph
on the 2000-2002 SRXs was 23/38 = 1.65 : 1
theorytical top speed[no overdrive] = 108 to 110 mph
Changing gearing for speed is not always as easy as it may seem. When you gear higher you don't always go faster because you need the HP to pull it...sometimes lower gearing will actually give you more top end depending where you end up in the shift ratio...but thats a whole nother topic!

clean and working like they should. i guess this is all i should expect out of this srx 700.
sounds mean- looks mean just wont keep up with a kotex 600. time to up grade i guess
should get some srx 600 stickers and call it a fast one lol.

21/40 = 1.90 : 1
Theorytical top speed[no overdrive] = 92 - 95 mph
1.90 would give you great trail or drag racing acceleration but is low for a lake racer looking for top speed.
If you are going to change gears on a 1998/99 stock SRX...I like:
22/37 = 1.69 : 1
or even
21/37 = 1.76 : 1...IMO this is great all around gear ratio
