what's the difference between polaris m-10 and fast m-10

its still a fast m-10. 2000 and earlier fast had a metric unit, and the 2000 and later stuff mostly found in polaris is the standard unit. some newer polaris m10,s are made different but I havent read good things about them. I bought a good metric m10 on kijji for 400 bucks, but it needed slides, and front idler wheels + idler wheel mount kit and a yamaha tunnel mount kit. it ran me up to 1000bucks all said and done... contact fast they quoted me a rebuilt unit before I thought I scored a deal on mine, for 1000bucks with the mount kit. That way you know everything is in like new shape.

The later Polaris M10s were not really M10s; they were stripped of some of the parts that makes up an M10. The early Polaris M10s were not as good as the Fast M10 - at one time Fast sold an upgrade kit that ran about $300 or $400 that they advertised as upgrading a Polaris M10 into a "real M10" You can find good deals on Ebay, you just need to find one with the correct mount kit, as a starting point. I picked up a "metric" one that came out of a Venture ( 136" ) that had almost no use for around $300 and I picked up a 2001 and newer M10 with a Jack ( about $500 if bought separately ) for $850, again mint condition. You just need to know what questions to ask and know what you're looking for.

Ive had m-10s since 1992. Guess I dont know much.

No need to apologize - the Polaris M10s when they came out in 01, came with a 160 rate front spring and a cheaper front shock, while the Fast M10 came with a 100 /300 front spring and a better shock. The first couple of years was the closest the Polaris one came to being a "real" M10 and went downhill from there. There was enough of a difference in ride quality back in 01, 02 that Fast offered an upgrade kit to make it a Fast M10 . I have a brochure from them somewhere with it in there and a magazine article dealing with the differences.

The 128" ones are a different story altogether. According to Brian at Fast there are big differences in that one. The first year Fusion my buddy and I tested in 05?? was nowhere near the ride of either of our 4 M10's and no amount of adjustment could get it anywhere near as good.

I've never riden a Polaris M10, but have read many things about the Polaris version not being as good as the FAST version in terms of ride quality. I did have a SX-R and then a Viper with an M10.

1badz, you mention a magzine article. Was that an interview with one of the Karpiks talking about the differences between the Polaris M10 and FAST? What magazine was that? I remember reading it, but now cannot not dig up a copy. As I recall, a lot of usefull info in that.
