1988 Inviter

Hi all. I just came over from the 4-stroke side and had a question. I just bought a 88 Inviter that looks like brand new! No scratches, cracks, or dents. It was just sitting there in the yard for sale so I had to buy it. Does anyone know if these were troublesome sleds? I know they only made them for a few years, but it seems like such an oddball that I had to have it. This one seems to run fine. Just wondering if there's anything to look out for other than the usual clean the carb and what not?
 
some of the early ones had water pump issues but by 88 i think they fixed that. fouled alot of plugs but the new plugs probably better. Had 1 for the wife in some ways built for a women with the pull throttle and back rest, very quiet for the day. But the track was way to short if you hit a bump or two it was fine however in lots of ripples it would start pitching front to rear and fall in the holes. My 79 Scorpion TKX with the pararail 2 actually rode better in that stuff.
 
You might consider saving it and not using it much seeing it is in such good shape. Those are going to become highly collectible sleds some day because of thier oddness and low production numbers.

Thats my plan. Some of the most fun I've had in my 20yrs+ of snowmobiling was restoring a 1982 Kawasaki Interceptor 550. There were only 600 of those made & only in 1982. I entered it in a local vintage show & won 1st place. When I saw this oddball sitting there for sale without even a scratch, those thoughts popped into my head again & I had to buy it.

yep they are a blast to run around the yard or for a short trip. We have one at our cabin and it is really fun. Liquid cooled 300. 45mph top speed. Electric start, Hand warmers. sweet little sled. I think ours has 2000 miles on it. we have a gold and brown one. I like that the best of all of the years! 1987. I just had a primary coil go out in the stator and we are just getting in back in the lineup!!

Well I finially got to take it for a spin yesterday. I only went about 20 miles or so. What a fun little sled to ride! Sit back, put your feet up, Grab the ape hanger handle bars & go. Only does about 45-50, but I thought it was a fun ride. After having the "Top" sleds by a couple of makes, my conclusion is if people could have got past the little sled = no fun, and I'm just as guilty as the next, Yamaha would have sold a ton of these. Just my 2 cents.
 
if you ever pull the head make sure you use a new head gasket or you will burn up the impellar in the water pump!! Head gaskets on this model are not reuseable .... The impellars dont last very long, they dissintergrate over time. When the hot light comes on..........time to replace ! and when you replace it you have to pull the head...just the way its designed!
