Shiftout too high?

I destroyed my primary clutch in my 95 VMAX 600, finding a used one to replace it was difficult but I found one off of an 01 venture 600 triple. I installed it and it works good but it seems to upshift really fast and it revs out at around 8100 RPM's. Is that too high for the old girl? It does feel wicked fast now but I just don't wanna pop the top end if the revs are too high.
 
you have to drill the old rivits out and put the new rivits in the holes be very careful not to drill weights though!
 
Ok I think I can do that. The rivets seem squished on both ends though, is there a way to squish the new ones in there like the factory ones? Any idea what weight changes would solve the overrev issue? I have never done this before it's my first Yammie and my first clutch repair. Thanks for your patience ;)!
 
more weight at the hole farthest from pivit point,and one end of rivit is the head find center of that side to drill the other end is sqaushed by hitting with hammer just enough to make it tight
 
Hey I just thought of something, would installing a stiffer primary spring also have the same effect, or would that just raise my engagement?
 
My only concern with putting new rivets in is that they may not be enough of a change. The stock weights for my sled were light (thin) at the toe and heavy (thick) at the heel. The weights on this primary are exactly the opposite. Would a complete weight change make more sence? FYI I can't use the original weights from the old clutch cause theres not much left of them, one is even in pieces.
 
if you post pics of the weights new and old the clutch pros can help you more, are both clutches, new and old the same in appearance ? if they are then you could buy the stock weights for your sled which are 8CA and the rivits are 17.2st in both holes with a gpg spring hopr this helps
 
Yeah my plan is to buy new weights and rivets. The new and old clutches are identical, and I've put my Vmax spring in the primary already and removed the weights from the new one and old to compare. They are not even close, I ordered new stuff but it sure is expensive, $170 canadian for three weights and rivets. :o|
 
UPDATE! Found some slightly used weights online near my house for $60. Picking them up tomorrow, hopefully that will be the end of my clutch issues for this year. I think I will be much happier with the sled's performance too, it was quite a pooch and I was very unhappy with it.
 
If you need to change the rivets i find it easier to grind the peened over part off flush with the weight & tap them through with a punch, much easier than trying to find center to drill. just don't grind the weight itself.
