Tell me this is not a problem on my SRX

Noticed tonight liquid substance sitting on top of the PV housing in front of the middle cylinder.Looks like it is coming from under the center cylinder head. What else could it be except anti-freeze.Tell me this is not a problem.Should I try re tightening the head. Why would it start to leak all of a sudden.Actually noticed wet there last weekend, didn't think much of it..

If I need to take heads off,I will have to drain anti-freeze level down right? What is the procedure here so that I don't get any into the cylinder .Never took SRX heads off before.Either it needs a re-torque or a need friggin head gasket :o|

YOUR THOUGHTS!!!

Whats it taste like? antifreeze has a distinct flavor,,, no don't do that..... Hopefully you just over worked it and it was sweating... I believe you can use the o-ring gasket again, but if it's leaking it may be damaged......

i was getting drops there and on the head once in a while. Turn out to be the water pump gasket needed to be changed. sometimes the impeller would shoot the coolant up and it would get carried by the wind. either way, you'll be draining the coolant to fix.

Mike..I'll have to pull the heads of then..right.If I drain anti freeze ,will there still be some that will fall into cylinder?? It has been sitting for a week since I ran it,and a little drips down onto the PV housing.Looks like it slowly is dripping by after I wiped it down, but you can't see it..it is a slow movement.I'll try an get a pic if it puiddles up again. It feels sticky, not like oil.

EVelvate the front of the sled and pull a rad hose off at the back of the machine. This will avoid you making a whole lot of a mess 'cause I haven't found a neat way to drain coolant up front.

IMO:

Re torque the heads, and see if that stops the leak, before you go to the trouble of diassembling the top end.

Hopefully its just seeping past one of the bolt/copper washers.

I agree with bob re toque first see if that helps...

1st pass 9.4 ft.lb

2nd final pass 20 ft.lb

No I would not loosen them...I would just set your torque wrench to final torque spec[from the shop manual] and go through the proper torque sequence on all three heads.
Do not go to a higher torque setting then specified...there should be no requirement for that if everything is right.

not really anything turning with the torque on it except 1 or 2 a slight bit on another head.I just loosened the center one just enough so I could re-torque to 20 lbs. There was a slight puddle sitting there from last night.Since I snugged up the center..nothing showing up yet.I have the sled hoisted up,so tomorrow I'll check again.I may get lucky yet....
