Ive been getting really bad gas mileage with the 2001 SXR 500. The carbs need to be checked?? Anybody have this trouble with their SXR?

welcome to my world.

you have to replace the gear in the chain case as the 00-01 sx500r is geared down 1 tooth compared to the 98-99 sled. this will get the milage up to 10-12mpg if you are trail running. mine would only run 7-8mpg on the trail before i did the gear.

if you are in powder or the trails are loose/soft, 6mpg is about the best you will see.

the specs are in the tec pages and with the new top gear you should hit over 90mph easily as i was getting 94mph with a 1-1/4" ripsaw whitch is not a top speed track.

ritch motorsports can get you the gear at a good price as that is who i bought mine from. you can get away with the same chain as long as you get a shorter chain tensioner bolt.

I just bought a 2002 SX600R and the mpg is not the greatest so, does this model also, have the lower gearing ? Is the original jetting 2 sizes on the rich side like older sleds ? Thank you !

My 700 get around 13 to 15 mpg. The 600 gets around 10 mpg. same trails same speed. The 600 is geared lower and runs at higher RPM. Al

My 600 would get 13+ all the time the 600 tripple over revs like crazy get it clutched right and MPG will pick up. i put on a Pioneer roller secondary worked great. I would not recomend 2 sizes down on any newer sled personally. I did lift the needle clip on mine but what's safe for me might not be 4 u. Make sure all carbs are cleaned and syncd. make sure track is not tight and running true.

put a pioneer clutch kit in my son's 99 600 triple and it made a big difference in performance and fuel economy. overreved like crazy when stock.

i hit 100mph on my sx500r and i have every thing stock. i would pobibly get 90 to 110mpt on the trails. now that i think of it dose rev pretty high!
