Only had the Viper out twice this year, but each time after it's been sitting for a few weeks, my scondary is stuck. I try to take off and the primary just spins and burns the belt.
I have to get work gloves on rock the secondary back and forth until it loosens up. It take a lot of force with the track in the air to get this secondary to turn. After it gets loose, there are no problems.
What's going on? Bearings? Frozen water? Thoughts?

Check your brake . then check the bearings .

Check for water in the chaincase too.... could be frozen.... If the secondary isn't even twitching it's probubly the jackshaft bearing right behind the secondary.

Is this something I can repair myself?
The next time I head up to the cottage I'll see if it does it again.
I got bogged down in water at the end of the year last season... maybe this caused it.
So Jack shaft bearing and/or water in the chain case... Can I lube the jack shaft bearing myself, or do I need a new one?

I didn't do it on purpose guys... there was water from rain all over the lake in small puddles... the wind ended up blowing all of the water into a bay. I didn't know it would pool up like that. I though there was an inch at the most.
Sorry to say, I don't know much about pulling sled parts and engines apart, so that's why I came on here for help... not to be laughed at.
There are plenty of people who have helped me out along the way.
I'm a little dissapointed that a few of you guys are "LMFAO"...
What can I do about it now... do I have to take it in? I'm not a mechanic or motor head... I can't just fix this without help.

Dude What Did You Do To The Sled When You Got It Out? lets start there
Remove the secondary. Behind it is the bearing. With a small flat screwdriver remove the black seal that is on the bearing.This will allow you to see the bearing "cage". Dry and rusty=replace it. If not too bad you can put some grease in there and put the seal back on. Chances are it is seized up the bearing must be replaced. This requires the chain case to be removed. Not to bad if you know a little wrenching.

As soon as it started to sink I killed the engine... After I was pulled to shore, I started it up right away and let it run for a long time... driving it around.
I then greased all of the zerks in the skid and the one under the hood. That's pretty much all could do.

Also check the bearing were the speedo pickup is aswell,the same way as the jackshaft bearing. It is directly below the secondary. This can be changed without taking too much apart. Just like the jackshaft bearing it has two set screws in the collar. You have to get under the sled to loosen them off.Remove the speedo pickup and bearing housing .From underneath you can use a pry bar and tap the bearing out.Sometimes it needs a little extra help to get it out.

Sounds like the chain case may have water in it and its freezing. Pull out the dipstick and see if the oil is milky or if there is ice in there.
I'm also betting on water in the chaincase.

Got up north and it was -25 outside... Tiped the sled on it's side, unscrewed the drain plug, and not a drop of anything came out... Used a torch to heat up the chain case and after about 10 mins, out came water and then oil... Quickly put the plug back in and I was off and running. I'll be getting the chaincase flushed and filled with Amsoil chanicase lube.
Thanks to this site and those who suggested this as well as the jackshaft.

Glad to hear you got it rolling free again. IMO you should pull the chaincase cover off and make sure that your bearings are infact not damaged, especially the upper one as it is not in a constant bath of oil. I would hate for it to fail on a trailride far from home.
