Hey guys...

There are many guys on here who are extremely knowledgable when it comes to Yamaha Sleds and I would love to have your opinions as to what I should do.

I own a 2001 SRX with approx. 9500 KMS on it and I have a few bucks to make it go faster, my sled is currently stock.... I would love to know what you guys suggest I spend the money on to do this.

My thoughts were porting, reeds, pipes and K&N filters ( re-jetted carbs ) and then clutching, Do you agree or disagree or suggest something else?

Thanks for your time...
Chris

At 5 degrees my 02 runs very strong. At 25 degrees it feels sluggish and wont pull the clutching. Im not exactly sure of my jetting but I know its up from stock because the previous owner got sick of the DCS light but Im starting to wonder if a TEMP-FLOW is in order for me. Dont get me wrong, mine runs good in warm temps (as all yamaha's do) but deff not as strong as 3 weeks ago when it was close to zero. Just a thought...

well

1.) Stud it, Sharpen it, Double carbide runners
2.) Adjust Track So it's loose but doesn't rachet, Buy Transfer Rods
3.) Set up suspension
4.) Jet it (Make sure carbs are syn'd and clean)
5.) Clutch it
6.) Clean and set powervalve's as often as you can..
7.) Make sure your clutch is in good working order, clean, new belt and buttons..
8.) There's that little thing on the handlebars called a throttle..pin it...lol
9.) At that high km's a teardown on motor would be a must, Check pistons, replace rings, cylinders, Crank Bearings, Crank seal replace, and make sure everythings in spec...

That will give ya a good start
If your serious about getting alittle faster..
You should buy
A Manual for your sled, Tool to set powervalves, Compression tester, Clutch Puller, Digital Gram Scale, Torque Wrench, Digital Calibers & a gapper....

Send your cylinders/pistons/heads to MrViper700 to get ported, clutch it, aftermarket transfer rods, and a nice 1 inch hacksaw or predator track with 144 studs to get the power all hooked up.

FORGET the K&N filters, reeds, and aftermarket pipes....

Hm.. 9500 km?

8) New piston rings! Probably also new pistons, my pistons on a 02 srx were under spec at 8000 km

Well if I was going to replace Pistons, rings, etc...would you recommend porting at the same time?

I should have mentioned that I do have Bender transfer rods....

So it seems that a new track and making sure the engine is tip-top shape is a better deal then trying to do engine work and performance upgrades?

Don't I have to change the drivers if I use a 1.25" track?

Nope I put a 1.25 track without any problems just have to remove tunnel protectors not hard

to make your SRX alot faster send your jugs to mrviper he'll set you up and yes a topend rebuild would be a good idea at the same time

cheapest and best easy ish mod is clutching... but a over all engine tune up will be more pleasant in the future... get it all tuned then I would recomend clutching then Port and polish...

stud it! 144-196 studs i recomend, skip pipes and K&N. i know in an sx, the reeds help. clutch it for sure, port and pollish. pipes will give you a bit of power but they bllow up with them! no question. instead get a different head....?

I noticed you had pipes on your list? you Won't find aftermarket pipes that are better then your stockers. However a good quality can will ditch some weight...no ponys tho

Honestly I wouldn't go threw the trouble again with porting...With doing all the above I mentioned...Take some time and dial in your clutch... Most people think they want more power but the facts are they just usually want something dependable that goes by your friends sled without any trouble and that's all in the maintance and clutching...just get your stock sled to work the best that it can and utilize the power that's already there...lol

Key things to most focus on are Power Valves clean & set up, Traction (Trail Studs (Sharpened) with good penatration & some transfer), Suspension, & Clutching

PM'd ya

If your lookin for a little more power and losing some weight, I have some Power Inc. pipes for sale. They do make power and are very hard to find anymore.

Since you're in Canada, and you wanted it ported, take a drive over to Iantomasi in Bowmanville. They'll fix you up, and you can't beat their customer service.

They're phone number is (905) 263-4868. Talk to Gerry or Flav. If you go there once, I'm sure you'll never go anywhere else.
