Always install new one right away and throw the old one in the spare belt holder...

No, but I'm about to drop $110 on a belt and don't want something like that sitting there - only two rubber straps away from sticky fingers!
....true, I would mount the new one right away and keep the old one as a spare. But it would really suck to have a decent spare belt ripped off.
Someone on Freedom sledder suggested using zip-ties to hold your spare in place - albeit not 100% protected but at least that will make it all that much harder for someone to simply walk away with it.
Any other ideas?!
$110, wow what kind of belt , im in the states and OEM are around $55, are your parts that much more expensive in ontario,

yes belts are about $100 here to,I always buy from the US.Parts is a rip off in Canada....

I have never had any part or even seen or heard of any part being stolen. Can you put the belt in the seat storage? I install the new belt on the clutch and put the used on the holder, I just rotate each year. To this date I have not had to install the spare belt ever. Al

it's been a couple of years since i bought a new belt but i never paid more then $85 here in this area. wow they must have really went up in price. i picked couple up at the Novi show for $45 US a couple of years ago. i would go on line and check with another dealer next time you need one. one good thing thou if your clutches are set up right you should be able to get at least a few thousand KM out of it.
if your worried then do as suggested, take it off and bring it in with you.

I have heard of sleds getting stolen, but a belt?
Seriously, if you want to lock your hood, you cold do this, Instead of the tabs that hold the rubbers down, put a lock cylinder through those holes, and have the hook inside the hood, so when you turn the key, the hooks will rotate inside the hood and hook onto something, holding the hood down. but that may look weird.

this is one of those situations where, if they need it that bad to steal it from you, than they need it more than you do. pretty low life thing to do, but if they are gonna do it they are gonna do it. over the weekend a guy we rode with said someone stole his one week old gas cap. we find it hard to believe and think the moron was so drunk he left it at the gas station. he was drunk enuf to flip his slep over on top of him, so anything could have happened.

keep your spare in your seat storage, put an arctic cat belt on the spare holder lol
I bet the thief would be pretty confused then!

Or you can keep the old belt on the belt guard and have the new one installed, with a very stiff secondary spring, say a red hauck at 80 deg. I bet the thief will struggle getting that off without tools. It may make your clutching worthless until you compensate the stiff spring in some way, but hey, they won't get your belt.

It this like the Hamburglar.....or Beltburglar. LOL.
Never have had an issue with someone take a spare belt. It's only money and if they need it bad enough to steal it well......Karma.

Yammy belts here the new gen ones as they like to claim which supposadly are better then last years cost for my sled $99. IF I wanted to go aftermarket and get the best $186. If I wanted to cheap out, you can get them for $50 here. It all depends on if you want a belt that is going to last. Prices are not that much different when you factor in shipping etc in. Plus I see a lot of online companies claiming they have Yammy belts only to find out they are knock offs. But that is with about any part these days
As for being worried about your belt being stolen, I have never heard of anyone doing this, as most people know the spare is usually the lesser belt of the two. If I were a theif, why would I want to go risk going under some persons hood for a ( maybe half arsed belt ), now if you are sitting there with a sled all decal'd up with racing this and that, you are just attracting attention or if they know you have a high end belt and parts on your sled, then you may want park your sled somewhere safe.

belts here in New brunswick are 105.00 i wish there was a cheeper alternative with out loosing quality. price doesent seem to change much 2 provinces over.
Where are you snowmobiling...in the hood? I never heard of such a crazy thing and I have been sledding for over 30 years. A guy caught stealing a belt off a sled is a good way to get your a?? kicked, big-time. It's like camping, you respect your neighbor's stuff and don't steal it.
