I'm trying to figure out why my buddies brake light doesn't work. The running light works, and the bulb is good. I tested continuity at the pull handle and the switch seems to be working. What seems to be the problem is there is no power coming up to the switch on either wire. What should I check and what wire out of the two supplies power to the brake light switch?

you might have to lift the seat up and check the connection under there.

x2 Could of came loose
Did you try another bulb? May look good but is not,,, clean contacts for bulb itself and receptacle........
I'm getting no power up to the switch.
maybe a broken wire at your steering post from turning the steering right to left often........
Anyone got a wiring diagram?

It's in the back of the manual, you need the manual?

select your sled and go see at the end of the manual

Old thread but I now own this sled and I am still chasing the brake light problem. I have no power up to the brake light switch. If the connector under the seat was loose, would I still have tail lights? The tail light works fine but no brake light. I replaced the brake light swich. Still nothing. It does have an issue with the low beam headlight flickers like crazy and cuts out. Doesn't do it on high beams. Wonder if the two issues are related?

Have you checked for the notorious wire rub through? Do a search, you'll find plenty of reading on it. MrViper has a lot of info out there about it. From your description, it's the first place I'd start.

yep, the headlight flickering and the light switch involved sure does leave the chaffed harness clue for me.
When you change the high/lkow beam does the tach move weird for a second?

I surely hope I don't have to pull the engine out to get to that harness

No, you don't have to pull the engine. Just reach down in there and loosen up the clips, unplug @ the hood connection, tie a string to it there and pull it out towards the back. When done just pull it back in and reattach.
You talking on the carb side or the exhaust side? I should probably take the harness right out then....

It comes out on the exhaust side. I found it waaaay easier to do by pulling the pipes off (on my Viper). Bit of a PIA to get the springs on/off the pipes, cousin had some needle-nose vice grips in his tool box that made that job a lot easier too. With pipes off I could easily reach underneath and bend the holders out of the way.
Be sure to unwrap the outer covering and go through each wire looking for bare spots. After finishing, wrap the heck back out of them, I used electrical tape very liberally (the only time you'll hear me use "I" and "liberal" in the same sentence, lol), and then get some automotive wire loom and put that around it so you don't ever have to do it again...

I have some of those long needle nose pliers. Bought them off Snap-On at the price of $80!

Yikes, spendy little critters.
On my SRX I had to open up the harness up to find the problem, it was up in front of the plug goes under the seat. Where they spliced the wires together looked like a shiney textbook solder joint, but when tested, no continuity. Reheating with my Weller restored the connection. Problem solved, chaos averted. Good Luck! John.
