Got a good deal today on a 1.250 unstudded ripsaw. In the process of putting it on tonight and am wondering if I need to remove the front protectors and the tunnel protector. Noticed that the tunnel protecter had some rubber wear marks in it. I dont plan on studding. I have a 98 srx 700 with a Fast INC. M-10, 9 tooth drivers.
 
You should have no real problems running an unstudded 1.25" track. If you ever plan on studding you'll have to go to 8T drivers.
 
I removed my front heat exchanger but left the tunnel protectors in when I put on a 1.25 track I do have some rubbing on the tunnels
 
If you do have any clearence problems and are not studding you can like you said take them off, or just trim the lugs where the protectors are. This is what i did but i ended up studding. Tile nippers work great.

Yepp, what him said ;)!

I actually trimmed my luggs and studded my ripsaw, without any problems.(not recommending it) Didnt have the same luck with the Predetor track I replaced my ripsaw with.
 
remove protectors. not much point putting a 1.25 if you have to notch it. I removed my front protectors and have had no issues.

I disagree, the only place you notch the track is in line with the protectors. maybe an inch wide.
staggs, i saw one nick in the rear of the tunnel and got nervous!lol tried to have some flat stock welded to the protectors to increase the clearence,but the track rubbed to much.

X2 - plus you know where the protectors are and don't have to install them if you change your mind and want to stud it.

good point. more work than removing them but easier down the road if you want to stud.
