keep breaking limiter straps

hello. i was driving in a field the first time i broke my limiter straps. i didnt c it as big deal considering they were old and worn out. but then i got new ones and they broke the first ride on them. keep in mind i had to drill the holes and that is where they broke. i also keep my limiter straps sucked way in because i have transfer straps. What should i do this time? i was thinking of making a set out of plastic coated steel cable. Is there a certain way to drill them to make them stronger? HELP!! its a huge inconvienience. Thanks
 
Didnt the new one come with holes in them. Those holes should be punched with a cutter of some sort like a track cutting tool for installing holes for studs.

That was something I was kind of wondering. If you have the shock tension still set for the suspension being adjusted out it would put a lot of strain on the straps now that they are now drawn in more. Might be causing it :dunno:
 
I am wondering why you have them pulled up.Is it to stop the sled from pulling the skis all the time?When the sled transfers back and the skis are in the air there is alot of weight on the rear of the rails,this adds more stess on the straps as well as spring pressure.


I would let the straps right out and tighten the mpi straps.
 
I have the spring tension set about half way. and my limiter straps are pulled all the way in because i blew my track by stabbing it through the rails and i have really bad ratcheting issues with the transfer straps on with loose limiter straps. the way i had it set up before was perfect. Thanks for all the help so far.
 
Antiratchet drivers are the ticket but you could try some straps from another brand as most wrap around the top axle and are longer and wider as well.
 
Why are you using transfer straps in Ontario? If you need more transfer use aftermarket rods or cut a 1/8" off each of the locking nuts and run full transfer. The straps are the reason you stabbed the track on the rail, get them off there.

Next, don't cut your track. There is no need for you to run anti-ratchet drivers on that machine. Either your drivers are excessively worn or you don't have your track tight enough. Are you sure it is the track that is ratcheting and not your chain? Sounds almost exactly the same.

Lastly, the limiter strap issue. Does your suspension still have the little retainer loops at the bottom? If not the straps will slip to the side and get cut by the upper FRA on the upper shock mount. See the small loops on part #26. Trust me, did it twice on my machine.
