My neighbor needs to replace about 8 bearings in his skid.His have the suffix "rk" and the local parts store gave him "lu" . Asides from the obvious rk-lu what the diff between the two?

Probably the manufacure...or the quality rating of the bearing... if it's for boogey wheels even the cheap ones work good.
The suffix usually indicates the type of seals or shields (if any) and/or any special characteristics. While there are many common codes, you need to look at the specific manufacturer's data which is mostly available online to be sure.
warning! You can burn many hours digging into bearing construction and seal construction, tolerances, etc. only to promptly forget most of it. (I have a friend who wasted a lot of time like this . . .) lol
