Does anyone know if there is supposed to be any play in the secondary clutch on the shaft? I have a 1992 Yamaha Exciter II and I started suddenly having excessive bog issues. I found 2 frozen idler wheels int the suspension that were darn near worn down through the aluminum. I replaced them and their bearings, but the sled still bogs. The secondary clutch can be move an inch or more in any direction on the shaft and I don't ever remember it being like that. Is it possible there is a broken spring or something in the secondary causing this bogging? Possibly this spring broke from the horrible drag of the seized up idler wheels? Any help is appreciated!

The secondary does move back and forth some, but 1" seems excessive.The seized up wheels won't break things in your clutch.How is your drive belt if its worn alot that can make a bog at takeoff for sure.It should be about even with the top of the sheave in the secondary.If your belt is good it could very well be in yours carbs or clutching.At the age of that sled it for sure needs a good carb cleaning and both clutches gone completely through.
Carbs were cleaned less than 100 miles ago. I think its a clutch issue because the belt is good and I bought a brand new one and it still does it. It used to be tight and tougher to change the belt out, now its easy as it just seems to go on with ease. The secondary moves around a lot on the shaft. Maybe the bearing or spring? Is that difficult to fix?

The spring is easy, the bearing behind the secondary is a bit harder.I haven't worked on one of those, but I'm fairly certain you'll have to pull apart the chaincase to change that bearing.
