Ah crap!! I got my skid put back in today and thought I have time so I'll pull the clutches and clean them, since I have it in the garage. Well I'm guessing I shiould'nt ride it this weekend. How hard is is to fix this? Should I pull the motor? Have the crank checked?

Well... although this really bugs me, I'm sure glad I pulled the primary.

Missing some balls I see. You have to split the cases and get a new bearing to fix it. You may have other bad bearings, by looking at that one, and may have caused other stress marks on case's and crank. I would take it apart. Its good you caught it.
 
I just went back out after writing this and picked up the primary to clean it, and it has large crack running from the middle all the way out. This wasn't there at the beginning of the season when I inspected and cleaned it. Man, I'm glad I caught all this... and it didn't leave me somewhere along the trail.

Oh, and the speedo says 4420 miles on it right now, but I know the previous owner ran it without a speedo pin for awhile, so not sure how many miles are on it.
 
Ya know what's weird about the PTO? I was having trouble it fouling the plug the last 2 seasons, and I kept checking that plug this year, it's been rich looking but hadn't fouled yet this year. Oh and now I know what that ringing sound was two weekends ago. I started it up in the morning and heard a ringing sound, but it went away, so I thought I just had some ice in the primary because I was banging around through some drifts the night before. The sound lasted a total of maybe 3 minutes before it went away.

Some people have to do bearings and others clean carbs...... :rulez:

What max RPM are you turning? Too high could have caused that.

That was the same thing that happened on my 97sx. Strange sound like whistling/ringing sound. Then the next day I lost the mag side bearing. :whine:
 
Now all I hear is funny noises out of my motor........should of never read this post.

Last year after putting a new spring and helix in the secondary it's ran around 88-8900. I know that's not ideal, but I didn't think it was that bad. It used to run around 9200-9400 when I bought it.

The seal is actually on the inside of that bearing (between the inner and outer bearings. I can honestly say I've never seen that happen before though...lucky find!
 
Well, just to make sure there is no cylinder damage, I pulled the plugs today they look normal. I cleaned and lubed the bearing with a little grease and started it up to warm it up to do a compression test and all the cylinders are between 125 and 128 or so. So after this weekend, I'll pull it and crack the case. At the very least I'll install new crank seals when I replace the bearing.

Does somebody near me have the clutch alignment tools for when I put it back in?
 
Well Nick, after thinking about this for alittle bit and after talking on the phone to you today, I ordered the parts. So now if we don't get anymore snow you can blame me. I just couldn't handle the thought of you playing in the next spring blizzard and not being able to play too.
