My 2000 SXR600 seems to be using an excessive amount of oil in comparision to the other Yami's I ride with. I am familiar with the cable adjustment but don't remeber the spec. Which gap decreases oil consumption(larger or Smaller)? Is it true, when the oil pump fails, it reverts to the richest setting? What would that fuel/oil ratio be? How do you know if the oil pump has failed?
It runs very well, but the plugs looks dark and the smoke burns your eyes at an idle.
Thanks for any advice,

How much oil is it using?
you want 1 qt to 1 tank of gas (50:1)
bigger gap = LESS oil.
yes most times when Yamaha pumps go bad they go to full flow output
spec is 23mm

Thanks daman,
Is there any way to tell if it is bad? Isn't there a range for the spec. or is 23mm the low end(least amount of oil)?

23 would be the lean side 21 to 23ish is spec
you would know it if it was bad you would be drinking oil, besides that no real way of telling it's bad by looking at it.

I had one go bad on a Exciter II 570 and it would foul plugs like crazy if you weren't heavy on the throttle to keep the plugs hot and clean.
