trying new clutch set up UPDATE
i got my used primary and i also got a bunch of springs and such. im going to try a new combo today and see how it runs. i got 8bu-00 with 4.5g in the tip with a ywy spring. im running my mega 56/40 helix with green at 80.
so far i found that it engages at 4500. it really jumps from a dead stop aswell. i will post more tonight. does anyone see anything wrong with this setup or ideas?

tony, dalton made the megapower helixs, i believe, so he might not be in just too bad off shape, cause daltons aren't that aggressive, but i know what your saying.

well i put some miles on this set up today. it really rips. i cant even describe it. the backshift kinda sucks, but i can be dealt with i guess. from a dead stop it jumps to about 8000 and settles at around 84-8500 rpm. when i come into a corner and let off it dogs down a bit. i also hit my highest speed in about 1000' today with this setup. 97 MPH and it got there quick. i do have a stock yamaha 47' helix to try. would it be usefull with this combo?

straight 47 will overshift badly from mid to top, but pull rpms better on the bottom, due to shallower start angle....47* vs 56*

update on 8bu00's
new top speed with this combo is 116 mph in just over a quarter mile.
i also did a rolling start run at 17mph just to get some traction, ended up 17-100 mph in 505' at about 10 seconds.
did another run 0-107 mph in 1000'

I will be trying out my 8bu's tomorrow.Got it set up as .8 inner and 2.4 outer.Using the 47 helix as starters with green spring at 80.If that doesn't work, then I'll switch to a 51/43 helix I have here.I'll post what happens.

tonight i could only get 91 mph on the lake. its still powdery. i ran 98 mph on hard pack a few mins later. my belt is slipping tonight for some reason though. clutches are really hot both primary and secondary. i could see the belt slip on the tach right after engagement.

yep ran the 8bu's and really couldn't dial them in.Got to 95 and that was it.At 95 wot was at 8000 rpm's.The launching was nice and midrange.I ran at 80 wrap.Tried 90 wrap, what a pain to wrap that much.Heard majar squealing at first when I started going.Pinned it along the ditch and the 90 didn't sound right..still was only at 8000 rpm. This after I originally tried 4.5 at tip..now 2.4 at tip and the same results.....not liking the 8BU'S at all.Went back to my 8dn-20's and ran 101 mph....

maybe we have to run the 8bu's empty ..in order to work.I am sticking to my 8dn-20's for now..it is snappy and pulls.

i just installed my 8bu's just as i recieved them. so im not sure about what rivits to use. i do know that the fastest ive ever ran is with this setup. my rpms are perfect right now 8400-8500 on top end.
i just about had my heavy hitters dialed in but my clutch cracked and i got the 8bu's. maybe ill go back to the
HH's.

like I said earlier,I may have to run maybe no rivet in the tip.8000 rpm is not enough.

monster, there has to be something up with your sled. i ran 8bu-00 on my buds stock '00 srx and ran 8550 w/3.1g both holes.bluemonster1 said:like I said earlier,I may have to run maybe no rivet in the tip.8000 rpm is not enough.

don't know, but ran 8dn-20's right after them and the sled is snappy as hell, lifts the ski's and all at launch...go figure

same here, guess I am getting down on power or something.SRX has almost 6000 miles on the motor, maybe needs a re -build soon. But can't figure why there would be such a difference from last season's end where I was just flying with 118 on speedo to this years beginning at barely getting to 100,got 101 yesterday at 8250 rpm wot.Actually motor starts great this year to.I know all clutches are good because did complete re-builds 2 summers ago..no worn out parts.Haven't put that many miles on since anyways.
Now running 8DN-20's again..4.5 rivet inner hole and after drilling 4.5 rivet outer hole..that makes the rivet at 4.1 grams.Still under reving by about 250 rpms. She is great out of the hole,no hesitation at all..just pin it and it fkies..ski's up and great pull mid range.Gets to 95 quick, climbs to 100 fairly soon after..but wot is 8250.So I figure I will drill out the 4.5 outer rivets a tad more to lighten them up.Will end up with approx 3.85 to 3.9 tip then.
With 3.6 in the tip it is over reving a tad at 8600.If I put in a straight 4.5 rivet..it is down to about 8100 wot.Again a 4.1 g rivet in tip is around 8250 rpm wot.Really some fine tuning here or what.
If I put the 51/43 helix back..over revs for sure..so won't use it for now.
Getting bummed out what is going on here.I will then be a little more weight then stock set-up then..will try it later if I have time.
