2001 SRX on and off all 3 pots

First off, great forum with a lot of expertise. I did some searching but didn't come up with anything. Here's the situation

2001 SRX, new to me. mbrp can, and a 136" track and some minor clutching. Cleaned the carbs and power valves (didn't adjust, just put back how I found them) last month. Burned a tank of fuel today and sled and had some issues.

Most of the time the sled rips, 81-8400 rpm and skis in the air. Though i was carving in some deeper powder, had it leaned right over and then it seemed like it started running on 2 cylinders. It did this through-out the day, ran awesome for a while and then shitty for a bit like it was only on 2, then awesome again. Seemed to only start acting up if I had it tipped over, or was going slow or in deep snow (maybe lots of torque on the motor)...then it would seem to be on 2 for a while, if I could get on an old track (easy going) and cruise a bit at half throttle, then it would get better.

I don't know what the heck to think. It is on and off. There is a pile of snow here 2-3 feet or more, really soft and powdery, all field riding. I was thinking maybe a carb was on the verge of freezing up? do these sleds not like fresh pow? Whats the deal with heated carbs, do I ever need to worry about running gas line anti-freeze? It was running on fresh premium (supposedly no ethanol).

I don't know, hopefully i don't sound retarded...it's late and I'm grumpy cause it is perfect for riding. Sled is in the heated shop for the night. Thanks for any ideas. I put in a fresh set of plugs this morning, old ones where blacky around the edge, dark tan-ish in the center.

Unless it is something with TORS, could it be?

SRX is not a deep snow sled..at all. It,s a lake runner. Your getting snow choking off the air & it,s running pig rich. Installing a cold air kit helps but the sled will die as soon as you get a lot of snow in the hood.

X2...also run your carb heat when in the snow + I find plugging the belly nose vents just below the bumper helps as well.

I run no ethonal fuel as much as I can get it and I add a bit of isopropyl gas line anti freeze as well.

Okay, so bad news cause I there is piles of fresh but good news cause I was scared I might hear the ' it's time for a rebuild.'

I'll see how it runs today after sitting in the heated shop overnight.

There are a few other things I thought of overnight. When I cleaned the carbs I had set my fuel screws back to 1 1/8 turns, though had the hanging idle problem so I opened them up to 1 and a 1/2. This wouldn't have anything to do with it would it? The sled ran good before I opened them up, but there was hardy any snow then either.

I also thought that a float might be sticking or something, is this a possibility? I remember if I wheelied my old dirt bike too long this would happen and it would flood out.

The sled already has a screen kit, other than the cold air kit is there anything else I can do to get it more powder friendly? I was hoping to make a trip to the mountains. Does anyone know how the mountain max's are set up for snow?

The mountain guys say the Yamaha tripples are pretty bad for choking in the deep snow if they don't have an exhaust deflector...I think the Mountain Vipers came with an exhaust deflector that prevents the snow from restricting the exhaust sustem. This issue would explain what you are getting...definately worth a try! I would try a search on this subject + see what comes up.

Ya I just read the infamous powder bog thread. Crap, this sux. There is too much dang snow for my sled, son of a B.

Looks like I have a day or two of mods coming up, or buy a RMK. Okay I would never do that but....
