having a problem with the clutch on my 1997 SX 700... the clutches are set up to be the same as a the 2000 SXR 700 clutches...

ok here the problem. ***it never did this last year***

from first start up, SOMETIMES it wont engage until like 6000rpm, then it will catch, but if i let it idle back down again, it does the same thing, it keeps doing it for about the first 2-3 miles, then quits...

im running a yamaha 8DN-01 belt on it.
-maybe the belt is just slipping until it warms up???

also there is a ring of rubber on the primary and secondary, the belt is new, but WAS broke in properly... we cleaned both clutches, but the ring came back....

:o| :o| help please!!!!

sorry if it was hard to understand, it was hard to explain. Kinda one of those things you have to experience/feel to understand.

You got something binding in the primary. The primary responds to rpm,s so in order for it to react this way something is sticking not causing the outside shive to move.

Also check the bushing on the movable sheave to see if that is where it may be binding. You'll have to take the primary apart to do so. If you have the tools it is a pretty quick task. If you don't have a grunt tool, you can make one. There is a good article on here somewhere on how to make one for like $5-$10....one of many reasons why i love this site!
