My sled deff runs better with stock jetting and the stock muffler when its above 30. A month ago when it was zero or -5 at night it run so good with the can, I couldnt imagine it running any better with a stock muffler. Any reasoning to the pipes cooling off and not able to burn the fuel (with the can) when its warm out, etc, etc?
Obviously the sled runs great when its cold eitherway but I just feel the sled runs better on warm days with the stock muffler backpressure thus hotter pipes...

BOB, NO DOUBT WEIGHT SAVOR. BUT TOO BIG OF A PERFORMANCE ROBBER FOR ME. I WANT TO CUT WEIGHT, I,LL PUT A LITE DRIVER IN THE SADDLE. NOW I JUST RUN 110/108 AVERAGE ON MY 2002 SRX IN A 1000 F.T. ON ICE/ RADER. DAMM, WHISH I HAD A BENDER CAN WITH ME. WHAT BETTER WAY TO COMPARE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

sprung weight is the same as a rider who weighs 7lbs less, so a 150lb rider to a 157lb rider.. certainly not a huge differance. Unsprung weight(lighter track, aluminum suspension/carbon fiber) and even better yet rotational weight(track again, brake rotors,jackshafts,driveshafts-titanium) is what makes the measureable differance in performance results.
Please post the dyno results from an independant operator other then dynotech/bender dyno, as if you have results from an independant facility you have indeed made a power increase worth something.

reread my previous post & do a search & you will find that another independent dyno operator found similar results. btw dynotech is a unbiased independent operator which is why the real engine buiders ( you know...the ones that port motors & don't tell the customer to use stock jetting & carry octane booster ) use jim to confirm their results even though they have their own dynos.
try & tell a hard trail rider that 7# of cheeseburgers placed under the hood over the right ski doesn't make a difference in how he feels after a long hard ride through the twistys. stop being silly!!

NOBODY OUT THERE BETTER THAN JIM AT DYNO-TECH. 3:16 (yammie tony)
I just want to know one thing...
How do they get the snow into the dyno room?
Man, the egos around here.

You guys can continue the can and loss or gain of HP debate but there's a nice used Bender can in the classifieds now...

I have a Bender can , Its loud it makes people think your goin faster. But it is slower on top end! I lose 4 mph with the can!!
I'm confused here. I don't know who to believe. One says that the Bender can makes hp, one says that it loses hp. I have stayed away from cans because I always thought that they were power robbers. Now Bob says they gain 5HP in the mid and 3HP on top. I had a friends Bender Can on my sled for a short while and although I didn't run it on a dyno it seemed as though the sled had a little more spunk.

It breaths better on bottom end but on top end there is not enough back pressure !!!

reality of it is.........
I simply deal in real world results, not just a peice of paper telling me how much power I have. If the tach reads low on rpm and my clutching is the same as before, then I dont have what was sold to me,wether its a aftermarket part or engine work, whatever. The whole case in point here was the guy gained rpm by going back to stock yamaha exhaust.... so he gained power, thats what tachs do they show you gain or loss very simply.
Always alot of spinning of information, just like in politics here with some people to try and "prove" thier product or way. It gets hostile and accusatory when thier paper proof doesnt hold up to infield testing, like pulling more clutch weight, gain in rpm, more speed, etc.
Like the srx stage tuning, back in oct/nov 98 amsnow magazine, written by terry paine. Hmmm, a article written by the owner back then, on thier products, dyno results from the same owner, not a independant facility. The dyno charts tend to NOT show you key peices of information like coolant watertemp, air quality, just what the added on products gain on a base sled. Anybody can produce large numbers on dynos by doing cold runs, and other tricks to artifically add some increase in results.
Going off whats in print, a silencer, cold air kit they report a best run of 145.8hp at 8300rpm,then silncer, coldair, and reeds netted 148.3@8300. They report in the article that porting will give a solid gain of 15hp alone, and thier recorded run with silencer, cold airkit, and vforce reeds, porting got them a run of 157 hp@8500, whoops... thats only 8.7hp gain, not quite the gain printed. This is what I am talking about. Read the magazine article for yourself and make your own conclusions.
I no where said jim isnt any good, theres lots and lots of excellant dyno facilitys in the country, not just in New York. I couldnt agree more that its great to check work on dyno's,its a great tool to tell you if your going the right way while developing something but if it doesnt perform in the field, a dyno queen isnt worth the ink on the paper its printed on when your buddy just beat you with a stocker. Do your own research when looking at aftermarket products, work, see who and what is performing in the field. Make your decision on research, dont always go for the dyno sheet sales, youll not get all youve paid for alot of times!

Since were having a full on can discussion now...I had a 99 SRX 7 back in well 98/99 and right before I sold it I got a good deal on a new Bender can at Hackers and put it on and went out on the lake. Sled immediattely felt flat on long pulls and deff wasnt any faster. It was late March/early April and was about 45 degrees that day so I assumed it was just the weather but now Im believing theres not enough back pressure to keep the pipes hot on long runs. I sold the sled that spring with about 8 miles on the can so take it for what its worth but I am confident in saying you dont GAIN any power. Weight loss and good sound--yes...

DON, I DON,T CARE IF YOU REPOND BACK TO ME OR NOT. AND I CAN TELL YA I HAVE NOT HAD A SLED DYNOED IN YEARS. I DO RESPECT JIM VERY MUCH BECAUSE I THINK HE IS EXTREMELY SMART MAN. I ALSO FOUND MY BEST TESTING TOOL IS IN THE FIELD. AND THATS WERE I WILL SAY AGAIN THOSE CANS ARE POWER ROBBING PIECES OF JUNK. THEIR PURPOSE IS TO SOUND COOL OR SOUND TURBO CHARGED THATS IT. SEE I WON,T RUN ONE. THERE ARE TOO MANY FAST SLEDS AROUND TODAY AND I AIN,T LEAVEING A SINGLE HP ON THE TABLE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

i am switching back to stock exhaust from the aaen triples i bought my sled with after talking to MANY people on here, who have run aaens, currently are running them etc. guys run them on ported sleds etc. every single one of them has told me on a stock motor the stock pipes are best.
now, if i know I am going out to just ride and want a BONER, i bought a set of the hold style hauck growlers. should be loud as **** and get me hard. but if i know i am going riding with some friends and one wants to race, your bet your *** the stock muffler is going back on!

x2 ....rpm is a sure sign of hp gain with same clutching as prior to modification or aftermarket purchase , gearing , whatever !!!i d'ont care what the neighbour's friends , say's about his dyno paper , There good for hp/rpm peak and then you still got to proove it on the surface you intend to run it on , port a red head engine and it goes from 8500 to 9200 rpm with the same clutching , its making more power period ,
Maybe the increase in power from various products are @ a rpm # that one is not able to monitor closely as the stock tack races past that peek to rapidly , to top rpm . Neverthelesss if it makes 2-3 hp on top then your tack will tell you , A 7/8 hp port job regardless by whom is definetly noticable , therefore if one claims this +this +this = x hp , then try it and yield your own conclusion ..

just got off the phone w/ jabber800. said both he & valin have tested w/ the bender round srx can. found no loss or gain on the radar gun. he also stated that if he could run it in stock class he would. sounds like the radar gun agrees w/ the piece of paper!!
