99 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200. which has a cam shaft, pipes, hyper charger, and Iridium plugs.

I put a new chrome gravity fed pet cock on the bike and it runs much smoother and seems to have a little more get up and go compared to before when it was running very lean on the last Dyno. The vacuum type pet cock was garbage and not allowing it to get enough fuel.


Bruno's Harley in Slidell is doing free Dyno's for the month of February so I took my bike in for another run today and he short changed me on the run because he did not run it out to 7200 RPM like I told him to.

These guys are trying to sell bikes because nobody is buying right now so he comes out and said it only did 65.47 HP but he did not run it to its full potential. I think the fre Dyno is a marketing tool set-up to convince people to buy new bikes. There is nothing wrong with my bike now and it should have pulled 72-73 HP or better if he took it out further.


The bike is running "just a small touch lean" but was jetted for up to 2000 feet above sea level in michigan 5 years ago on the with the mods done to it.

Here in Mississippi on the Gulf Coast I might be at a few hundred feet above sea level. It has a 175 main jet in it so I am going to put a 180 in it and it will be 'Spot On"

here is the dyno run from this afternoon and I'm not too happy with the guy that did it.

72 hp on a 1200 ?? :dunno:

Why would he run it higher rpms when it was already dropping off in power ??

Sounds a little weak..... but I bet the pipes are loud. :o|

a 1200 air cooled harley motor doesn't make the hp of a 1200 two stroke liquid cooled sled engine. 72hp sounds about right after all that work.

Actually I was thinking along the lines of an air cooled Suzi Bandit motor.... 1149cc..101 hp...73 ftlbs... all stock. ;)!

Ok then, how about a DOHC cam/ chain drive liquid cooled 996cc v twin?

Mine makes 120 rwhp and 75 tq on a real eddy current dyno with sniffer. Mostly stock but with full yosh pipeset and BMC air filter with a customized airbox mod and efi tune.

The r1 as mentioned is more of a high end liter to liter comparo, but the less cylinders= less power it can make.

There is a reason 1200 LC v twins run against 1000cc 4cylinders in world superbike.

In any case that highest performing pushrod harley type bike I saw on the dyno did just over 100 hp with a built S&S big inch motor. A 1200 to make that kind of power in the mid 70's for hp is pretty good.

That S&S motor alone cost around 30k IIRC.

Unless its a Buell, my xb12 is making around a hundred at the wheel. I am going to pick up another bike in about an hour....Its a real screamer. Honda CM440t making a mean 43hp. I am going to turn it into a bobber for my in town cruiser. You guys go easy on those HD's. :die:

That harley must feel very sluggish after riding sleds all winter. My '97 Vmax makes about 145hp bone stock. I can only get mid 11's at the strip, hard to get the launch consistant.
