1/2" swipper track question

My buddy has a 1/2" swipper track that he is going to let me borrow to race with but it dosn't have any windows on it. Why is this? is it for grass? will my slides get smoked? Just wondering before I swap it out.

correct run without slides but you would want some extra wheels
