01 srx clutching, here's current set-up, would like input

Well if peak HP on the dyno is 8500 then we should be clutching to 8650 range (tach).
 
one thing mopar.I was running today at about 8400 wot on my 02 SRX.Using a old belt from last season,but it started to unravel itself today on some wot runs.So I put in a new belt and that dropped the rpms.Guess I should go to 3.6 rivet in tip now and start all over again.Only have a 47 and 51/43 helix here.We all know how turk hates them 51/43.But wasn't it you that told me last season's end to try it since the weather was warmer and sugary snow.It performed really well for me the.Mind you I was on more icey surface then a hardpack.Reached 118 on speedoThis time around the 51/43 over-revs a bit,but with a new belt and warmer weather by weekend..maybe it will suit me fine.
 
as a starting point...the stock clutch for SRX is usually 4.5 inner and 3.6 outer with w-y-w spring.Is that in the right order..I think it is.Stock secondary is 47 helix at 80 wrap with red spring.If it over revs one can go to 4.5 outer rivet.But usually when you put a branch new OEM belt on..the rpm's usually drop.
 
had the rivets listed in wrong place.Stock setting is 4.5g outer and 3.6g inner.Going from 3.6 to 4.5 inner ..will that like try to stop the motor from over rev on launch..or at least try?
 
are stock weights the 8dn-20's? thats what is in mine, loaded with 4.5 in each hole. i am going to put stock primary spring in with a 52/46 helix with the stock secondary spring at 80 wrap... i hope it goes pretty good...i hope the rpm's should be spot on...
 
i'm going to be trying it out this weekend waiting for the helix and spring. right now it has a blue white blue primary spring, softer than stock, a 53/41 helix, and a red secondary spring. not sure on that wind is on it. but it pulls 8700-8750 anytime i hit the throttle wide open. pulls to about 110 on the speedo and feels like its slow to accelerate/hits a wall. the 41* on the helix is way to shallow for those weight i believe. so going to a steeper helix initally will help acceleration, and the 46 is only 1* shallower than stock, which may help hold peak RPM in all conditions...
 
this year not so good,compared to last year....was running River yesturday at 100 mph easily on the snow.Rpm's were at 8400 wot. Stopped to check clutches for heat and when I opened the hood there was belt debris all over.Belt was starting to loose the threads.SO put spare on and got home.I finally bite the bullet and put a new OEM belt on.Still breaking it in..have 30 miles on it.Got my new reeds and gaskets in today also.I know the new belt has dropped rpm's.Wandering what I should set clutch up at...pure stock maybe..3.6 in and 4.5 out and still at 80 wrap stock helix. Weather is getting mild now to..so snow will become more sugar like.I know last year the 51/43 was perfect in these conditions.
What difference would there be from 3.6 inner to a 4.5 inner..what would I expect to see differently?? Got 4.5 inner now,want to go back to 3.6..what would I expect to see happen.I need rpm's to increase.If I strap on the 51/43 again..I will be reving 8500-8600.
 
I put in the helix tonight and only got to go for a short run on it, going to the lake tomorrow. I have 4.5 grams each hole with te secondary at 80 with 52/46 helix. In a run of about 300 feet it would go 8500wot, grab traction, back off to 8300, then climbed as speed gained but ran out of room. I think it will rev right to 8500 on a lake, pull feels good. Mid hole weight may be a tad heavy, not sure yet until I get to try it more. Should be fine tho, may need to go to 90 wrap. Will post tomorrow around dinner with gps speeds
 
I left the 4.5 in both holes, but since that day I went out testing when it was 39* and I was pulling 105, the temps have been 40+... Winter is over and won't have any cold to be able to test out the setup in a cold temp. But yesterday it was 49* and the bog i had midrange was gone, I am leaving the stock primary spring, 4.5 both hole 8dn-20's, 52/46 helix, and the red spring at 9-1. Run's too good to change even in warm temps now, that will only get stronger when its colder and will probably back off on the secondary to 6-3 wrap when its cold. I did put on a hauck growler silencer... Still felt good on low end, but would definitely feel it fall flat on its face on top end. With stock can it would pull hard to 105 dream meter and climb to 110 on that warm day, and now with the can, it pulls to 95 then tapers off. Maybe its cuz it was almost 50, or the can loses big hp on top. I do know though, it sounds awesome, and isn't as loud as I thought it would be. Actually gets quieter when you hammer on it IMO. But stock can will go back on for racing friends next year!
 
ok .I was hitting 106 in the warm yesterday,a little boggy at launch.I got to much weight in tip,so took some out today.Will go out after and she how she goes.We had a real goffy high humidity day yesturday which will hurt performance.It is -3 C now and sunny..we'll see if it differs.
 
I bought a radar gun and tried it yesturday.I love the thing.At 106 mph on speedo..shows 100 mph on radar.So there you go guys..speedo is off at about 6 clicks.My stepson's vmax 600 got to 86 mph on radar.I am going to have to get some radar runs setup out here.Charge guys ,charge $20 for 3 runs each. ;)!
 
well today the snow is real sugary.Feels like I am riding on sandpaper on the river.It doesn't matter where ya go now.Actually feels like I hame dragging a doo behind me..lol..Doesn't matter what I do for clutching now,SRX basically is not opening up like normal.From a launch ..just blah!!! and all ther way up.That is how much the snow is causing resistance.Only got to about 97 today on speedo compared to 106 yesturday.I am alittle dissapointed the sled is not screaming now.So on my way back home went up onto the top of a floodway.There is a spot about a mile in length and pretty hard packed down 3/4 of the way.I would try some runs here.Well to my surprise..the sled launches quick again..no blah sound...it screams and the studs are working because shot off like a bat out of hell.Held it to the bar and got to 115 but started slowing down because there was a truck parked along the edge and I thought it was the cops..so slowed down and passed him.If I was allowed to go all the way..there was no doubt I would of buried the needle because she was hauling aZZ!! I was literally hanging on for dear life,that's how she was pulling.That is the SRX I have come to miss.
When it gets this warm out already,I should just switch to the 600 to ride.The clutching was super hot today after high speed runs on the river and towards home.Saw a v-max 800 going the other way on the river today.Can't miss them Pogo's..lol So next season is another new start for clutching because I will be rebuilding both 600 and 700 motors.Can't wait to ask a gazillion questions again..lmao!!!
 
What's next for the bluemonster..well of coarse..waiting for the flood again,not as big as last spring,but water is coming mostly from N.Dakota and Minnesota.More snow there to melt and flow North.... :o| :o| #$%&*
 
Nice, I am just going to switch spring positions for next year. Love this 52/46 helix, it pulls so much harder than the 53/41 or whatever the hell it is. I have no doubts that this set-up is fast on the lake, feeling good about pulling away from that iq 800 and apex on a warmer day, and those are fuel injected so I was running fat on jetting then also... who knows what is in store with this sled next winter. Definitely taking off the hauck can. Will only run that in the spring when the sled slows down anyways. Definitely sounds cool though
 
LoL Bluemonster. There are too many factors involved to ever find a clutch set-up that is going to suit each and everyone of your needs. If you're looking for an all around set-up just go back to stock.
