well at these miles
comp test 140 psi all cly . leak down test is 10 %
i will replace the clutch rollers . i blew out the lower chain bearing landing off a jump . and put in two plastic washers it the pri clutch . other than that no failures , just maint .
i Will change other bearings so i dont have to worry about them :yrules:
 
well if 10 % needs new rings what would it be then ? i heard that you will get down to 3-4 % in a 4 st with gapless rings .

with regular ring replacement very good chance pistons would be in tolerance at 10k.

Really?????,,tell that to tomseal and some others,under spec at under 6,000.

Point being that some find them in spec at very high miles (hence the word often) and some don't.

Perhaps you need too search to. :>)

I pulled pistons out at 7500 miles, had a cracked piston skirt and the others were out of spec.

Yes it was, I'm glad we decided to finally tear it apart for piston rings. We had owned the sled since 3000 miles and it was the first time we took it apart. Put in all new pistons, rings, gaskets, and outer crank bearings...and that was just the motor. We put in all new suspension bushings and even a new front shock on the rear suspension.
 
a little over 9k miles on mine and it still starts, runs great, great comp, and great mileage still. never really been a big beleiver in changing out the rings as maint. but thats just me. I also always let my sleds warm up to avoid any cold seize damage.

I think I should respond and defer to Daman's points and suggest (before he does ;>) you tear into it soon. I too go well beyond the recommended PM interval and as some have found, things are within spec at big miles but much over 6-7 K and I think you may be flirting with disaster.

I didn't go much beyond 4k with cast iron before re-ringing (except when using Wisecos), but with plated cylinders I have seen pistons go much further before wearing beyond replacement limits. Even Cats!

anyway we all do things that we think is right and thats fine it's what makes the world go around,I've always operated that way my whole life it's just the field i work in keeps me in this habit and this habit has kep me W/O head aches of down time and pricey unnecessary repairs,things wear out even when they continue to work well.

I'm meticulous with my stuff or the stuff I'm responsible for always have been i want my stuff to be tip top shape is how i work.
