a little help with a jetting question

I need help with needles. Ran a mid range plug test, and my plugs look fouled. dark, oily and carbon fouled. I am running a 60 pilot, and the needle is on 5 the last clip( I think). so I ordered 57 pilots. My question is where to set the needles with the new jets? does anyone out there know how this 60-57 drop in pilot relates to needle clip? does going from 60 to 57 mean I should go down x number of e-clip locations? thank you all for looking, and any help would be appreciated. :EXER:
 
slp pipes

The machine came with slp pipes. the setup sheet has 60 as the pilot. the sled came this set up here. I should say that the setup is for high altitude. 10,000 + ft. the stock setup is 45 for 0-5000ft

Your needles sound like they are plenty high. I would go down to 4.5 on the needles and then try it again.
 
I must have missed something

My thought is it is running rich. I am currently set at the leanest position, the top of the clip (correct?) I am thinking That since I am maxed out (or min out as ther case may be) I need to drop the pilot to a smaller size. What have I missed? :wel: :2strokes:
 
So your needle clip is in the top groove thus dropping the needle as far as it will go(lean) right? On our mountain max with benders and porting I ran it with 55's, needles in the middle with both washers on top, and 140 mains. This was at 9,000' or so. Not quite apples to apples, but gives you an idea anyway.
 
yes it is in the highest position. It sounds like I may need to go even leaner on my pilots correct?
 
you need 499 series q-2 needle jets in that thing. pilots are not your issue!
 
drop your mains to 130....your too fat! what r your fuel screws set at now? should be 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 turns out.

my fuel/air screw is 2 turns out my pilots are 60 my mains are 133.8 and my needles are one shim on top one on bottom at the #1 clip position. ( Ilooked at how they were numbered again, and the top it a #1. The machine reads rich, but runs well at full throttle. It bog a little in the mid-range, and struggles for a while when you peg it (go from midrange to full throttle). thank everyone for your input. pray for snow
 
1/4 sizes are available from yamaha oem. full sizes are can be sold aftermarket, but for quarter you gata go OEM. or maybe my eyesight ain't what it used to be lol
