700 coolers are the same as 600 coolers unless they are SRX coolers, then they are bigger. I just swapped my cracked 600 ones for SRX ones this year. My buddies SXR 700 coolers are the same as the ones I took off mine.

Lol lol I wont keep up anymore if you do the 700 swap!! Pretty cool idea anyway, wonder if you could just exchange the cyls at fast ent.? Probably be cheaper to find a complete motor or jugs off ebay though. On a side note I got the cr250 stripped, turns out the cyl is in exellent shape surprisingly and the piston was just past the wear limit after probably 75-100 hours of riding. Luckily the guy was following the factory manual mix of 20-1 , i know it woulda looked worse at 40-1 with those kinda hours. Only thing gunky was the power valves. More oil= longer engine life/more power and cleaner if jetted right. Std wiseco piston kit on order should be here early next week!!!!

I have 2 99SXs a 600 + a 700. On the 99Sxs the 600 running board coolers are smaller then the 700s.
When you change your sled over to a 700, I would highly recommend the Bender tripple pipes and suggest you add an SRX rear cooler[you have to have adapters to join the larger hose diameter for the SRX cooler pipes]. You can use the smaller 31mm 600 carbs but I would suggest picking up a set of SX33s and then the jetting will be straight out of the pipe specs.
With porting, pipes, reeds, and some set up time on a Red Head...your SRX will have to pedal hard to pass it! And no power valve issues!

here sideshowBob...now you are really getting me excited here. And the suspension would be a better ride then the SRX to.I am really stoked up now..you made my day. Now time to start searching for parts.Got about 8 to 9 months to do so,take my time and no rush.Yes the SRX could be sitting more after something like this.,and the SXR is much lighter in weight also.

I have been looking around on this site and e-bay so far. Some things like the carbs,SRX rear exchangers are easy to find and cheap enough.I already have carbon tech reeds in the 600 and spacers to boot. Will look for the jugs and heads and probably will go the stock piston(OEM) route..even though I have spotted some SPI piston kits for some lower pricing.
If I want to long track it..it is an option, but not sure how much that will cost me right now.One thing at a time as the $$$$ are starting to get tighter.Should be a nice project anyways.

PS: If some of you out there have the parts I am looking for, give me a shout what you have and how muchas I will be searching everywhere to get the best prices for this project. And any more info would be helpful also on doing the swap to a 700.

what is the difference between the 8CH5 and 8EA3 pistons for 700?? The cranks are the same and they are a 8CH #.Connecting rod same numbers as 600.Also the cylinders are in 8CH..So the parts with 8CH are the ones I need .Brand new pistons.rings, pins and circlips are around $300.Cylinders max are $250 each new. Will look for good used ones here.I am hoping I can pick all my parts up for around $1000..will see.Depends if new or used.

Doug, could be wrong but I know Japanese manufacturers use a letter designation system for plated cylinders. They intend for you to order replacement pistons based on the letter designation printed or stamped on the cylinder. The Japanese manufacturers have between two to four different sized pistons and cylinders. Normally labeled A, B, C, and D. If they only had one size, the piston to cylinder wall clearance would vary between .001 to .006 inches. In the standard Japanese alpha labeling system, A denotes the smallest bore or piston size and every letter after that is slightly larger, usually in increments of .0015 inches. The danger is that if you try to put a D piston in an A cylinder the piston to cylinder wall clearance will be so tight that a seizure might occur. ( Not sure if this applys to yamaha sleds but I know alot of bikes are like this)

Yeah Scott,on the Yamaha Parts it states 2 types of pistons usually. So I would want that cleared up pretty quick before I order anything.Maybe someone one could chime in here as well about the correct pistons for a 700 redhead.

just looked up a cylinder for example from a parts site. Also my cylinder stamp on 600 is 8DG.
examples:
SKU:8CH-11311-01-00
CYLINDER 1 (8CH5)
or
SKU:8DG-11311-00-00
CYLINDER 1 (8EA3)
The 8DG is about $100 more then the other.Wander why and what the difference is between both..the bore?

I'm pretty sure that 8dg is the 600 and 8ch is a 700, look at the cylinder on your 600 and you'll probably see 8dg on it.You'll generally find the parts vary back in forth on price between the 6 and 700 engines.I'm almost positive everything you need will have the 8ch prefix on it.Yamaha made this a bit confusing, but just wanted to have less microfisches I guess.

Talked to Port Yamaha just the other day about the same thing .They told me the the prefix 8EA is a 600 and 8CH are the 700.

Yes I put 2 and 2 together and got the same idea.So 8CH(700 cyl) will fit on the 600's lower casing I assume. And same with the pistons then..8CH ones are for a 700.Sound easy enough.I know the cranks, cases and connecting rods are basically the same as on the 700 Redheads.Learn something new every day.
Thanks.

Thanks.

well I got 2 ways to do it..either I find enough parts cheap enough to convert it to a 700 or I look for a used 700 Redhead motor.I already put an add out looking for a 700 motor(less work)lol..Then this way I would have a spare crank and cases for the future.Got a long 9 months to search this out,but at the same time really have to open up the SRX motor to to check it out and do top end.Already have a complete gasket set here for the SRX including seals.I am slowly starting to shop for parts. When others will be golfing..I'll be a wrenching. Then I'll have two sleds that will be like brand new and take me into the next 5 years of my life.
