Just got back from the U.P. (one last trip). Sled overheated on the railroad grade, thought it was from low snow conditions. Went off trail to cool it down. Did not help, shut sled down to check for leaks. Everything looked good. Started sled and noticed coolant was not circulating in coolant tank like it always does. Has anyone had a waterpump go bad? What part failed and was it a pain to fix? Can't get my sled to my shop to rip it apart yet, my yard is a swamp now. Its a 98 SRX 700, 12600 trouble free miles till now. Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I'll pull that apart when it stops raining. Didn't mention this before but this happened 20 miles away from where we were staying and the only way I got it back was by constantly blipping the throttle all the way back. Temp light stayed off if I drove like this, constant throttle , light would come on.
My buddies broke out in the woods near Curtis in the UP. We had to let it cool down after every couple of miles, dumped it for the night in Newberry. Both of us (250#s ea.) rode back on my 50 miles old new sled! We rode 50 miles back to our room, the track got so hot it stuck to the clips half way back. It sucked! We got back around 5 in the morning.
I would check the thermostat and coolant level/air lock as well. The SRX has a very large thermostat and a pin failure is not uncommom.
The water pump is all mechanical and its shaft is also the oil pump drive. For it to quit working you would have to have one or all of the following failures:
-stripped crank drive gear[not good!]
-stripped [and or seized] water pump/oil pump shaft driven gear
-stripped water pump impeller mounting spline
-broken water pump impeller blades/vanes
Most of the above water pump issues are unlikely but not impossible.
Let us know when you sort it out.
