'04 SX Viper- Good Sled??

All-
I have a chance to buy what looks to be a clean 04 Viper 700 w/2"track & 1300 miles. Since I ride an 07 Attak, I'm not really familar with the older Yamaha 2 strokes. Can anyone shed light on issues I should be looking for? Are these sleds reliable? Any info would be appreciated.

The motors are TOUGH. Just make sure it has been looked after, but 1300 miles is fairly low. Check the compression, and check the power valves to make sure they are all good.

You will probably want to put a different skid under it if it doesnt already have one, and also will want a rear heat exchanger. Those are 2 changes alot of guys make, but oddly I have neither.

I LOVE my '02. Lots of get up and go in them.
 
Seriously the 2004 was probably the best Viper. It's one of Yami's flagship 2 strokes besides the SRX.

Incredible sleds that will last a long time, won't let you down if taken care of, good on oil and gas, and they can run with most other 700's and even some 800's. Excellent sled.
 
best viper made was the 04s, wish i could find a nice clean one. i'd love to find a 05 or 06 viper mountain b/c they have the proactive skid. be a good crossover sled
