Clutching for 1000' ice drags

what kind of speeds do srx's average honestly in 1000 feet, and in a 1'4 mile...
honestly with a true trail stock sled with a trail track and trail studs, suspension set up for trail riding and your clutching set up for trail riding and a light rider you should hit 105m.p.h. in 1000' maybe a little more maybe a little less but that is a VERY REALISTIC number

Tony ran 110 with 8bu-10's. I think I am gonna try them next year for trail riding and radar runs. That gives me at least 8 months to find a set. I guess all you can really do Spinner is search the forum and take notes this summer, and test next winter. That's what I have been trying to do here for a couple of years. My wife thinks I have issues always being on TY reading different stuff. Might as well drop some $$ this summer and become a TY Lifer.

I don't think the 8bu-10 set up is a very good trail set up though. Listen to Turk and the other guys that really know their sh-t. You can't have a good clutch set up for the best top speed and have it be a good trail set up also. If you like messing with your clutches just for the radar runs and then changing it back to a trail set up then yes you can find a good setup that should get you around 110mph with the rest of the sled being a true trail stock sled.

I have an extra primary that I am gonna set up for just weekend radar runs. I figured I would give the 8bu's a shot on the trail and if they don't work well runnin the potato fields around here I would just slap my current 8dn-20 set up back on. All I can do is test and keep tryin to go faster.:)
Just trying to help out someone else trying to go faster. Good luck Spinner.

tony..YAMMIEGOD3:16. is the guy to ask.He has used both of them weights.Read some of his threads and posts.I really haven't given the 8bu-oo's a real run yet.

SRX700GUY. I 100% DISAGREE. I BUILT MY 8BU-10 SET-UP FOR ALL AROUND USE. THIS SET-UP FLYS ON THE TRAILS. SMOOTH AS A BABY REAR. THAN GO OUT ON THE LAKE AND THEY HIT LIKE YOUR MOTHER-IN- LAW. I RAN 8BU-00 IN THIS SLED FOR TRAILS, FIELD RACING, LAKE RACING, I DID NOT LIKE THEM. NOW FOR ALL OUT ICE/ GRASS, DRAG RACING, 8BU-00 OR H/C ARE UNBEATABLE. YOU WANT TO RUN BIG SPEED ON THE LAKES, AND THAN RIDE TO THE BAR TO BRAGG ABOUT IT, 8BU-10,s. i,ll share that set-up with any of you guys. the exact set-up we ran 110 with. 3:16 (yammie tony)

tony..you'll be sharing me your recipe when I get the SRX rebuilt and ported for next season.I will then see how they perform.Just want a reliable SRX that is quick and fast at the same time when the time calls for it.You don't believe in Heavy Hitters at all or are they a waste of time.I couldn't dial in HC's so sold them.
needasrx bought them and has good luck with them and has Trophy's to prove it in the drags he does out here.

SRX700guy I also think your way out on the 8bu10 set up not being trail friendly and capable in a speed run. We have used these weights for a few years with many of us also using them for speed runs.. We win more than our share of events at the track and have one of the best set ups you can find for the trail.

blue, i've been using heavy hitters for a few seasons and really like em for trail and top end. and easy to tune. but i picked up a set of 8bu-10s to give a try and compare next winter

stagg..are the Heavy Hitters really good..better then HC's.With HC's just couldn't get my top end speeds up.Ya the 8bu-10's may be on my list also. What helix you've been using with the Heavy Hitters. And forgot to say thanks for them used reeds also. ;)!

hc's are probably a better drag race weight. the heavy hitters are better for top-end and trail imo. i've used a bunch of helixes, the last i tried was a 54/46 dalton. pulled real hard but backshift wasn't too good. but my secondary bushings were pretty worn out. looking to try a 50/40 bender or advantedge next

well I am just debating what set up to go with next season.I will rebuild the 700 motor, probably add trail porting also.Just want to look for stuff during the summer so when winter comes..I am ready. Some of the helix's to use either with 8dn-20 or 8bu-10 weights as per turk are 54/44...or 52/44 ...or even 50/44 helix's.Not sure what brand there are only..dalton????
