toward end of season i blew the motor on 2000 srx due to gutted air box. just getting around to putting back together, it was cause of the lean situation but mainly just the exhaust side. the color on the others cylinders were a little light but not near the exhause side. wondering if this is the same charictaristics as others that blew up with gutted box's also or if i got another problem. the carbs were cleaned before the meltdown and they didnt have any problems before that anyways so i dont think that is the problem. checked carb boots, reed boots, and reed cages. there were no cracks and all were sealed good. usually if there is a leak somewhere like that you can see where it was on the seal when you take it apart. anyone have any ideas on why it would be mainly the exaust side? there is probably more heat on that side but i wouldnt think it would be that much of a difference though. thanks for any input.

just curious what your jetting was at the time of blow up..since gutted air box will lean you out some.Put the original air box guts back in and leave it stock,otherwise problems can arise if you didn't jet properly along with the mod.
 
jetting was stock at time of blow up, when i gutted it was in the fall, then got a new sled i was riding toward beginning of winter, toward the end i got out the srx and forgot i ever gutted it so i never read the plugs and rejetted(stupid and expensive mistake), but i am going to sell it now so i put the box back stock and am rebuilding but wondering if anyone can think of any other reasons why just that one cylinder would have been worse than others. that cylinder was actually the only one melted down, the other two were not that bad, i can see the color was a little light from leaning out but not alot. and compression was a little low but probably not bad for an engine with 7000 miles on it. but that one cylinder on the chaincase side was melted right down. dont wand to sell it to my buddy and have it blow up again in 1 ride cause there was another overlooked problem. thanks
 
cant remember exact numbers on the other 2, thinking a little better than 120, somewhere in that range, didnt look bad though when i pulled it down, i didnt think that was too out of the ordinary for the miles, and most of em were pretty hard miles. i cant ever say anything bad about that sled. still ran really strong. the bad one stuck in mind though, it was 60 psi and destroyed the cylinder.

have to check the seals, didnt check them yet but did check for movement in the crand and everything seemed good. thanks
