Lug studs - do they work / hold up?

I have a Camo Predator 1.25" lug track under my SX600. I haven't studded it yet because I don't want to have to deal with the clearance and 9-tooth driver issues. However, I need something for better braking into icy corners. I am thinking of trying some screw-in lug studs. Can anyone give me some info on the good/bad/ugly of this type of stud? Do they pull out easily, do they damage the lugs, will I have to do additional protection to the tunnel/cooler/etc, do they perform like a track stud...?

Word is they don't stay in very well and you'll still need tunnel protection just like studs.Years back snow tech ran some and said they lost quite a few and they didn't hook up like studs, but did add some safety on icy corners as you stated you wanted.
 
Nothing out there compares to "real" studs. Lug studs just don't cut it. I had a Camo Ice Attak track on my SRX last year and is was all gravy until I hit up the radar runs. They just don't hook up like normal studs. Good for trail riding and a little extra insurance in the icy corners, yes. Top performance on the lake...NO!!!
 
I haven't used them but would like to put some on the mtn sled for ocasional icy trail rides for saftey purposes.I figured I would lose some but there is no way of studding a 2" track.
 
Looks like I am going to have to go with track studs and throw in 8-tooth drivers. I like the track and don't want to give it up and I don't want to possibly wreck it by putting in lug studs that will evetually get torn out.
 
Dont forget to re-gear the sled to correct the gear ratio if you want to keep the same top end and mileage.

going up 2 teeth on the top sprocket and dropping one tooth on the bottom usually gets it very close to what it was stock.

Thats the reason I went with the 1" camoplast hacksaw track. No gearing change, stock 9 tooth drivers, and studable without any damage. Definatly a good compromise.
