Handle bar hooks?

I'm looking to put a set of these on my viper. I noticed a need for them when riding off trail more. What is everybody using? Also are you just cutting of the ends of the stock grips or are you buying new grips that cover the bar and hook. If so what grips are you using. Dont want to lose my warm gips!!! I also see some with 90 deg at brake and 45 at throttle, and most with just 45's, any advantage to either one or just personal prefrence. Thanks CCC
 
when i put my hooks on i used a razor knife to cut the little hole in the end bigger but once i hit the hard plastic i whiped out the dremel tool with a little drum sander wheel on it and just plunged it into the part of the hole i opened up ...worked great cleaned the hole up a little and with the hooks on looks perfect
 
i used a step drill bit, the kind that starts small and tapers larger as it goes in. i left the end flanges on the grips. dont really notice them while riding. the 90 or 45 is pure preference, although i found the 90's to be awkward for my riding style. running all 45's now. depending what brand you get and what sled your putting them on, be prepared for some custom fitting on the hooks. i had one set slip right in while several other sets i have had to take to the belt sander.
 
I have tried both the 90's and 45's. I like the 45's better. I think it's because I have big hands and the 45's give you more useable space.

Be careful not to cut too much off your hot grips. I screwed my first pair up because I cut just inside the lip. I'm not sure the grips were put on all the way. So when I cut off the end flush with the end of the bars I got into the heating elements. The wires came out of the end and I had to buy another pair.

Do like they said ^^^^ and take your time and go in through the end.
