I have a 96 xt. I drained the chaincase and pulled the cover to inspect. Of course I put a small tear in the gasket so I need to replace that. Question is how much oil is supposed to be in it? will one bottle of amsoil chaincase oil be enough, or do I need two?
Thanks Jason
Thanks Jason
8.5 oz or 250cc's. skip replacing the paper gasket and use a permatex product called motoseal1. designed for chaincases. i have had excellent luck with this product, just make sure both sides of the case and cover are well cleaned.

check specs or dealer
check specs or dealer for amount of oil, dad probably has it right but I would double check. Putting too much oil in the chaincase can almost be as bad as running them dry. Most sleds are under 10 oz so again, I'm sure dad is about right and I agree 100% with his gasket comment. Those paper ones are pretty much junk unless they are installed exact and even then i've had better luck with permatex.
