Just bought these for my Srx 700 triple. Wanted to take out the packing to get alittle more growl. What are your thoughts? Good, Bad? Ever done it? Im thinking this is why everyone is saying the older ones are louder because the packing has burned out on the older ones?
:2strokes: :letitsnow

I have talked to tons of people who say there are no sounds laws around okoboji area?? are you sure.

might not be a law in your area but all you have to do is piss off one (1) property owner and loose a whole trail system . #1 reason for loosing tails is
noise.

It wont make that much difference anyways, if you want it loud, just re-pack the pipe and make sure the packing is in there tight. The looser the packing, the quieter its gonna be.

I completely agree with keeping it reasonably quiet. Rippin across a field near someones house w/ stupid loud pipes just screams "f*ckin idiot" and gives the community a bad name. No offense to the OP of course, this is based off my experience.

we should keep the loud pipes for the race track and be reasonable about trail pipes and help 2 keep our trails open, my 2 cents AL

I have heard of people soaking their mufflers in water over night, all the packing hardens after it dries, thus making the can alot louder. I personally would never do this though.

1 nice thing about getting older is that you are able to look back and realize what a dumbshht you were when you wanted your sled to be loud. not only did i look stupid, but i realize now why everyone that was my age then, would just shake their heads.

you need to own a Harley then you can run with no exhaust and everyone thinks that's cool. Nothing noiser then a freaking ugly Harley going by homes in the summer when your windows are open at 60 miles per hour at 3:00AM. you can hear those stupid things for miles, but yet change a snowmobile muffler in the dead of witner, no windows open, hardly hear them at all, and sometimes they are quieter then stock and you get fined. WTF.

sorry had to vent, some SOB did just that last night with there HD.

Yeah, we've got them loud HDs here in S.E. Mich too.

I think there might be a difference in the amount of noise "soaked" up by foliage in summer vs. winter. Or maybe when everything is covered in snow sound bounces more.

I hunt all year long and when the ground is covered in snow it just seems quieter. Obviously there are fewer critters (birds) around but given the same temperatures and wind in early winter, when the ground is covered things seem quieter... until some jerkwad comes along with through pipes screaming "looky me".

IMO:
On the trails, eventually everyone learns that loud is not fast nor is it cool...its just LOUD!
The best sound is always a high horsepower well tuned engine...you can't hide that music no matter what you have for muffling.
[I'm with you guys on Harleys...how can anyone think those open piped V-Twins sound good???!!!]

So true, the "younger guys" always like the loud, but someday will learn its a whole lot more impressive to smoke someone while the machine sounds bone stock, you dont announce to everyone you have a hotrod sled and it really gets guys scratching thier heads as to what just happened to them when they get smoked in a race. Not to mention you have better power available with the srx stock muffler vs the cans, all your getting is noise.

(( "mph is indicative of hp",remember that!))

walk softly and carry a big stick! ;)!

I THINK THOSE HARLEYS AT 3 am IN THE SUMMER ARE COPS ON THEIR WAY HOME JUST COMING OFF THEIR NIGHT SHIFT. lol. WHO,S GONNA GIVE THEM A TICKET ? 3:16 (yammie tony)
