Taking Trailering Arms to Powdercoat

All right I'm getting ready to take some stuff to powdercoat. Both my trailering arms are going. I'm running into a problem getting the rubber sleeves out of the end of the trailering arms. I have soaked them in PB blaster over night and applied heat and they wont budge. Now the heat from powdercoating them will ruin the sleves anyway I guess. So what are my options for tring to get these out or have you guys done something different?

Theyre pressed in, youll have to either cut them out or press them out. Make sure you mask that area off when they get powdered or the bushings wont press back in.

They should be 2 metal collars with the rubber sandwiched between. Just drive the outer collar out. I put them on an anvil or a vise and drive them out like a bearing. I forget which socket size fits, but just match it up. You can use an arbor press if you have access to one. I will tell you that I have destroyed a couple, but saved many.

your best bet is to use a press of some sort. 10x easier and it still isn't that easy.

I don't have any way of pressing them out plus the heat I kept putting on them probbly has fried the rubber now. I did try a socket and pounding it out W/ heat and pb blaster and no dice. So it looks like I'll be cutting them out tomorrow. I'll just have to get new ones and have my parts shop press them in. Thanks guys.

I left mine in when I had my trailing arms powdercoated last year and they survived just fine.

I did too, they didnt have any problem with the oven

a vise works great using a socket on the other side.But a press will do better yet which I built to remove things like bushings and bearings.You can try with a car jack,find socket same size as the opening,place something bigger opening on the underside so bushing will slide into.Place jack on top of the socket and jack to a vehicle or something,that should push it out.

I did too, they didnt have any problem with the oven

X3 - I installed a couple of old shock washers that covered the rubber on both sides. Don't forget to tape/plug the spindle tube.

All right, unfortunatly I fried the rubber applying heat yesterday. So for next time I'm not removing them. I'll try a vise today and if it dosen't work then I'm cutting them out I'll let you know what worked. Thanks for the help.

Well I cut them out the vice wouldnt budge them. I allready have new ones orderded. so for next time I'm not taking them out.
