hey guys, I have a 98 with a 144 2 inch track with elkholm tunnel, 9 tooth drive, 20 40 gears. I added mid and tip weight to the stock weight which took it up to 58 grams total. it helped a little. running 8300 rpm. stock springs, running tight secondary ,stock 47.5 helix and green spring. servo and power valves work, and set up proper.stock exaust,although I do have the aaens for it.ya got to help me set this thing up! a stock rmk 600 polaris is neck to neck and takes it on the top . talk about embarrassing !I do lots of powder and trail agressive once and a while we get to lake race it.thanks guys, this machine should slaughter that sled!

20/40 gears are not top end gears, so yes he is passing you. You need some clutching done but i dont know what kind of riding you do 90% of the time.
I see you have posted that you have a 144 track with 2 inch lugs??? those big paddles are really slowing you down.
Sounds like you have very soft mountain clutching with steep gears for hill climbing.
You can have your sled set up for hill climbing, lake racing or drag racing short distance, not gonna have all of them in one set-up

jodyford - Welcome to the Forum with your first question for the group. You are in the right place as you will find many helpful replies from these guys. As Tom says you will need to tell us what type of conditions, distance, snow type you will race this guy at. You cant setup for everything.
Also, do yourself a favor and sell the aaen pipes. No other pipe comany besides the stockers from yamaha is going to make better pipes for that sled unless you start changing cylinder volume and ETC

I have a 141x2" track on mine with 8 tooth drivers, 8dn-20 wieghts with 4.5g mid and 5.5g tip. I run 23-39 gears in mine around home for boondocking. Last winter I left my 20-40 gears in after I came back from the mountains and I couldn't stop it from overrrevving and I had no top end. I definately think your problem is too low a gears.

i would not say that about aeen pipes olev aeen worked at yami for years he knows how 2 build pipes for the yamis, he did a very good job on pipes for the vmax4800 so would not see any different for srx, his pipes actually make good bottom and midrange power and thats what u want for a hill climber.

guys, I live in the southern b.c interior. I do mostly agressive trail, rarely do I go to the mountians to ride . Im not into the hill climbing anymore, but if the buds go, I will sometimes tag along. snow conditions can be anywheres from hard pack to a foot of fresh powder on trails or open meadows.

your going to want some taller gears then. You said you had 9 tooth drivers? I would say go with 22/39 or a 22/40. It will give you much better top end then you have and will be steep enough if you decide to go to the hills for a day. Realistically, all you would need is a 70L chain and 22 if you went to a 22/40. I would put some 8DN-20 weights in with some sort of multi angle helix. Your sled will perform much better for the type of riding you do.
