I hate to break it to you, but the seat is meaningless for determining the condition/maintenance of a sled. My father-in-laws old phazer was meticulously maintained and well taken care of. Seat split at the rear seam because he liked to put his knee on it when playing off trail. My daughter rides it now and it's due for it's third seat cover. I've had 3 different seats on my srx. The stock one is sitting in the garage collecting dust. So if I was to swap it back on it wouldn't be much of an indicator as to the condition of my sled. Buddy of mine had an almost new sled. Had it sitting outside one afternoon after coming back from a morning ride. His new puppy was outside and thought that looked like a good place to lay. Then he got hungry. Then he needed a new seat cover
Just a couple of examples of how a seat can't really show anything.
As for the Polaris - they were the first of the extra lite triples and started the industry in that direction. That's about all I know about Polaris sleds.

condition of the sled vs miles can be a good indicator of how the sled was maintained.
The v max he is interested in does not have a tear or split down the seam, its in horrible condition and just looks neglected like it was left outside and not taken care of.
He is going to look at it and I hope for him that everything else checks out ok

tomseal- Im thinking about ditching the date to check the VMAX out The KID who is selling it says he bought it broken, it had a broken skirt on one of the pistons, in talking with the guy selling the XLT he definitly knew what he was talking about and sounds like he takes great care of his sleds, and this one is older yes but lower miles plus a overhaul and extras for 250 cheaper then the VMAX, and a 30 min less of a drive....would like to know what you think about it tom
ok.. I had a feeling there was more to the story on the vmax. Who knows if it was even put back together right or something else will happen in the middle of the season.
I would like to see some pictures inside and out of this 94 XLT. Is that the one with the purple heads? Like ryan said, I dont know much about polaris but they really do make a nice comfortable sled. I rode a late 90's poo and the ride was very comfortable. you might ride it for a season and end up on a yamaha next year who knows. Its too bad you cant find another yamaha your interested in, would be able to help more.

I will probably go to check out the poo this weekend, my gut just says no go on the yamaha, i will take a ton of pictures, the guy selling it garuntees every thing done to the sled, only thing is the choke lever is broke so the plungers get stuck, heard it was an easy fix, maybe? Might try and talk him into fixing that choke for me while i wait for another paycheck, idk i was talking to him about it then he got pulled over so he had to let me go haha
?? what sled is the choke broke on?

the XLT
if its just the lever that is broke that a couple bucks for new one grab a pair of pliers to see if the cable will move the plunger/plungers freely and get it to start

Ya he said it was just the lever, cause i dont care about test driving or nothing but he should be able to grab the cable so i can at least hear it run, not worried about doing it myself i have done a bit of wrenching in my day haha
tony,
have u searched the classifieds on here for a sled for near in or near colorado? It would be more of a benefit coming from a TY owner and know a little more history about it. might even be able to find that triple your looking for
at least put a want ad in the classifieds for your area. what is your spending limit?

bud i hate to tell you but your going to have to look for awhile for something nice for 800... unless your market is alot cheaper out there...
i managed to find a vmax4 for $1000 after watching for a few years but even that was a steal. it has a cracked seat but that is from a knee... i know because mine fits right in the crack....
i agree with most, you should probably pass on that vmax, it probably sat outside year 'round and is rusty as hell... make sure you check the rear travel... ill bet it is froze up.... i think you said the choke doesnt work on the vmax too and that might be the reason for the rebuild you never know
that being said 800 is pretty cheap for that sled i would think... if the track and suspension are good you could part them out and get 400+ alone... im not saying thats what you should do im just saying if the track is good figure its worth around 200 (real nice) and if the skid is good figure $250.... im afriad neither is good on this one but you never know... pictures always lie... i went to look at a
retty nice" 95vmax500 a month or two ago, the guy wanted $600... ended up the pictures lied big time and the fram was bent in the front... he wouldnt even take $500 so we got back in the truck and headed an hour and a half home...
it sucks you dont have more money to play with but if you are patient youll find a good one.... just keep your money in hand because when you do find that deal of the day you gotta move fast! (aka my $1000 vmax4, that is tight)

tyler- thanks for your input, im gonna pass on the VMAX hour and a hlaf drive just to look and then back, plus another hour and a half to go get it or put a deposit on it, plus i would like something a little higher that a 500.
And yes the sled market is way cheaper here, seems as though prices are about half here as they are in the upper midwest, but it has a down side also cheap sleds but not a huge variety, like i told someone before i live in a city with 400,000 and on CL for where i live there are probably only 20 not junk sleds for sale, colorado is not sledhead friendly.

Don't always trust the mileage stated. A lot of guys disconnect the speedo and reconnect when ready to sell.

Makes sense for sure, well just see what happens and what else pops up, heard if something doesnt work out with it being that it is still a popular sled a few guys told me i could part it out and get what i paid plus more back.
On another note found a good deal todat on a nice helmet with 2 used pair of goggles

I was looking on CL and there is crap for sleds out there in that area. They all have issues of some sort.
