absolutely
actually you will be so happy your not still dreaming of buying a sled. it will haul you around just fine for a winter or 2 until you get bored of it and want something newer or bigger.
Its really a pride thing. when your out riding around with everybody, you know you bought and earned the sled you have no matter how big the motor is as long as YOU are happy with it
Believe me, when your doing about 70 MPH down the trail or through the twisties, the grin you get from ear to ear makes everything in your day just go away. Its really amazing how that works.

o ya, thats why i have a love for sleds, outriding with my cousin and other family just taking turns hitting the throttle and ripping around, it is my purrsuit of happiness.
For the 500 and my weight, since it has a rebuild and compression is at 135, any idea of approx top speed on those sleds?

high 90's with a possibility of breaking 100 depending on conditions

wow well this one may be it then, seems like ive come full circle, definlty doesnt have the cosmetic damage as the others.
The seller did say the the reason for the rebuild was a bad skirt on a piston, would that have been fixed in the rebuild?

the VMAX 500 that i started this thread for, the seat was rough
also the seller said something about the piston skirt and so i was wondering weather the issue with the piston skirt would be fixed in a rebuild?

oh.... that one...
i remember you saying he has paperwork on the rebuild, im guessing it came with some type of warranty.
I must say, I myself woudln't buy the sled ONLY because I would never be in the market for a 500 cc sled and the repairs stated that were done is really a hit and miss
and I would really wonder as to why it happened in the first place, lack of maintenance, abuse.
However, $650 is not a huge loss on a sled like that if it goes south since there are a lot of good parts on that sled if you need to part it out to get out of expensive repairs that will cost more then the sled is worth.

ya the reason for the rebuild was that piston skirt(re-reading emails) and it was that way when this seller bought it, he got the rebuild done and said he has papers on it, so it isnt a backyard yokel fix-m-up job, it was done at a shop.
And if you think this sled would haul me around i wont mind a 500 if it will at least get up over 80.
I think it is a safe investment just because i could part it out and not loose much if any on the deal.
And am i correct in assuming that if it has a rebuild and i buy it with that fresh rebuild, it would be like a 2nd change for the sled in terms of maintaince, like i would be starting with a blank slate since it is a rebuild (if that makes any sense at all(it was a long day at work)

when you buy a sled, you need to get it home and go through everything, its simple,
take nothing for granted on a used sled that you have no clue about its history. whatever you were not able to look over before you bought the sled needs to be done in your garage when you get it home.
does it start up and the track spin freely, does the skid look good and the sled when running does not make unusual noises? does the speedometer work stuff like that.
Oh btw if the speedo is broke, its a dead give away that the drive axle bearing is going out and about to break the axle if not fixed

any easy way to see if the speedo works without test driving? just bump the throttle and watch for the speedo needle to jump or what

and whats the easiest way to check to see if the track spins freely?
get the rear up in the air on some sort of stand which doesn't have to be fancy and throttle up let the track spin. worse case have seller or somebody hold it up in the rear.

o so even though no weight is on it, holding it up will still make the speedo work? and by track spin freely you were just referring to that when the throttle moves it, it doesnt have any binding or noises, that its just moving smooth?
yes to all
