im pulling the trigger on the 2000 sxr this saturday.. my question is, I have never rode a sled with studs before..I know... im kind of newbie... but the owner put in i believe 144 studs last winter by the yamaha dealer, either that or 122(forget what he said) anyways the yamaha dealer installed them... my questions are, Im keep hearing about tunnel protectors, im not sure if the sxr has these installed or not. I dont know anything about this nor how to install myself as im not handy. what happens if you ride a studded sled with no protectors? and do the dealers normally add protectors when they stud an older sled? i can ask the previous owner but he is more clueless then myself when it comes to this stuff and would have no idea if dealer added or not.. thanks..

Your doing fine by asking questions yank!? If someone has studs added usually there is enough common sense by the installer to add tunnel protectors. The '00 Sxr came from the factory with them.
As for riding a sled wtih studs you wont really even notice that they are installed when riding under power, but you'll notice that you have studs when others around you are fishtailing when coming to a stop. You will also notice that you have studs when you come to a road that you need to cross, the ride gets a little bumpy and you need to be cautious not to damage your studs by spinning the track on pavement. Hope this helps. T
