I just noticed that the hose running to the heated carbs is disconnected. I couldn't get a very good look at it tonight b/c its dark and my lighting is crap, wondering if anyone knew where the hose ran to, and why in the world would it be disconnected? Just bought the sled this year...thanks.
depends on which one is unhooked. it should go from the head to a shut-off then to carb to carb to carb out the other side of the last carb and back into the cooling system. this is just off memory. dont know why someone would unhook it unless there was a bad hose somewhere, or they didnt want heated carbs.
u sure that its not the carb vent tubes that are a clear color?
it either fell off or someone forgot to hook it back up. make sure the carb outlet on the other side is connected to something and properly. looks like an oversight to me. also, check each hose from carb to carb for leakage. should be obvious if it was a presidentially engineered fix or a mistake.
It most likely didnt get reinstalled at bender. They trail ported the motor 500miles ago...any idea where that hose connects to? I just looked it over with a flashlight and cant see where it goes!?!
i will pop the hood on a few of mine on my way home from work tomorrow and give you a location. wish my sleds were here! soon!
it goes on the head to a fitting

LOL!!
Will be using that instead AA engineering... PC ya know.
Thanks Dad.
based on the op's first picture, that is the line that should be attached to the head, as tom seal mentioned. so, in theory, if that is not connected, the sled would be spewing coolant in the run mode. those brass connectors are prone to falling out. simply held in with red locktite, unless anyone else has a better idea. the other side of the shut off valve goes to the carbs and the exhaust side of the carbs returns to the water pump. cant tell from the picture, but is the outlet on the head in someway capped off?

Here is a better picture for you. That hose should go to the fitting on the head

Thanks that picture really helps...only problem is that there is no hook up there...i take it that its not the original block? did the older redheads not have the heated carb feature?
should be standard eqipment on all redtop triples, 97 and up. yours must be cleverly hidden or its an aftermarket or modified head. look close at musselmans pic and see if there isnt something there in lieu of the stock fitting on your head.
Just took a good look at it and no wonder why i couldnt figure out where the hose went!! Theres nothing there!! Whats next?
post up a close-up pic of your head. it doesnt appear as though its hurting anything the way it is, you just wont have the carb heat. you will get opinions in varying degrees of the importance of carb heat. do a site search and draw your own conclusion. your head should be drillable or worst case would be to look for a good used head.

I believe the 97 redheads did not have heated carbs (introduced in 98'), so maybe you ended up with a 97 head with no fitting.
My 97 doesn't have heated carbs.
