from years ago? I recently purchased a 2000 sxr 700, and it has the pro action suspension... how does this suspension compare to the suspension that was in the 95-97 vmax sleds? I had a 96 vmax and it was the worse suspension ever, was that also a pro action? it was not the XT version... also, why does yamaha have such a bad rep with the suspensions? and when did they finally start making better ones? was the pro action a decent one? or was this one that gave yammy the bad rep? I do know that this suspension has alot more grease points then my old vmax one had, but im just wondering if the proaction performs better then the standard vmax skid? i dont want to regret hitting a bump..LOL

100% better then the v-max skid for sure.At least there will be some travel now..lol.And from a distance it won't look like your headlight is flickering steadily to...noticed it on my stepson's 96 v-max.The bumps would kill him...
97 and up skids are far superior to the 94-96 skids. no comparison really. the bad rap come from those who chose not to tune them. yes, there is better technology out there today, but at the time, it was the snizzle. your sled is what, 10 seasons old? of course things are better nowdays, but that skid in your sled is the better of the p/a skids with the long travel, and if you didnt know any different and its tuned correctly, you would think its the best you have ever ridden. especially if you started out in the days of the unsuspended sleds. properly set up, it wont bottom out, hits and takes the bumps well, and sticks and goes. just my opinion.

X2. I came off an 92 phazer to a 96xt to my vipers. I have no problem with the proaction. Im rebuilding mine with ohlins as we speak. I think tuned in and the way i ride it will be awesome. point being yours will be fine. Do some research and some wrench time and youll love it. Go to the tec FAQ part in the forums and follow bethevipers fix for the skid and youll be amazed as i am. Cant wait to try it. CCC

The old V-Max skids REALLY suck while the pro-action just plain sucks.

Yamaha tried to go away with the coil spring design, they tried for years... look at what they have back in the new ones. Also in my opinion you may figure out how to properly tune the pro/action skid to ride nice, but I was able to get better weight transfer by putting a polaris skid in the SXR. Weight transfer equals traction, and I don't spin since swapping out skids (1" track 96 studs only)
