sorry if this sounds like dumb question, but not sure where this goes... I was looking at the rear suspension this week on my new 2000 sx700r... and I noticed under the i believe front W-arm there is a rubber piece on the bottom.. It is only on one side of the arm.. not sure if the other side is missing or if it only goes on the one side... on the attached pic, it is item #2 called a damper... i only have one of these installed..not sure if the original owner lost the other one.... also, if i get one, how hard is it to install? and what exactly does it do? thank you

yep you need both in place. Can be easily installed. When the w-arm compresses..it sort of dampens the compression,,sort of cushioning it...for what I know..lol

any type of damage
that could have happened to the skid? if the previous owner didnt use the one side of it?

one of those things fell out of my 98 srx in 98, the first year i had it. never replaced it, kept the broken one in a drawer somewhere. its a wedged/compression fit and chances are it will fall out again. keeps the w from smacking the rails. i never had an issue not having them in there. might depend on how you ride. i would find the bump stops from a mtn sled or newer sled that attach to the rails, in fact i probably have some. they just rivet on the rails. by the way, that 98 skid is still in use with no known ill affects.
MrSled taught me to take them out as I know many others that do.It helps in the cracking of the w arms. When the w arm bottoms out it hits theat tall rubber piece in te middle and the arm coninues to go down further so the bottom half is stopoped and the end is bending causing welds to crack and new cracks.

this is the piece im talking about
I found this picture online..this is not my sled,, but as you can see, this is the little rubber bumper im talking about, and it seems his is set up like mine, mine is missing the same side as his broken one... is this the bumber piece i should remove from the left side of it? i just want to make sure im talking about the same piece...if these pieces installed lead to the w-arm breaking, then im gonna remove the one..thanks again

heres another
picture.... i circled where im talking about...so, to make a long story short, if i remove these two circled rubber things, this will help save my w-arm? and Im doing no damage to the suspension by removing these? I just dont want to damage the shock or anything. this also not my skid either, just found the pic online..also, as im so new, what is the w-arm? is it the piece that these rubber things are attached to? is that what usually breaks?

If mr sled says you can run without them i would say its ok. I would either run both or none, not just one. would give uneven flex if you did compress the skid that much. MY 2cents worth. CCC
on your second picture, that bump stop mounted on the rail is the same style, part number, mounting, etc that the newer skids came with that had the h arms vs w arms. stategically mounted, thats your bump stop. keeps metal from hitting metal. worth the effort in my opinion.
