2000 SRX idles on 2 heads?

what could the problem be if a 2000 srx 700 idles on 2 cyl. and dies out when the throttle is squezzed?
 
thanks ryanB but,carbs and power valves were cleaned recently and still the same problem
 
it constantly amazes me that people will state the carbs were cleaned recently or are clean. the question comes down to who cleaned them and how thoroughly they were cleaned. there are several passages that often get overlooked as well as the screens. if the cylinder in question has compression, heed the advice given and clean the carbs. go in a bit deeper and be more meticulous. if not a compression issue, its a carb issue.

X2. Sorry to keep following you snowdad but your right. Been their done that with carbs more than once. Clean them then the sled runs worse than before i cleaned the carbs. You losen crap up when doing this and if you dont get it all it finds its way to the jets. CCC
 
Clean the pilots out. These jets are tiny. I had to take one small strand of copper wire and stick it through the jets to unplug them. The first time I cleaned them I didn't do this and it still ran bad. After I made sure the pilots were cleaned the sled ran great.
 
i had a guy bring me one with the same symptoms ...i cleaned poilets and mains and passages ....turns out there was crap under float needle in the tophat screen/filter....be sure to look at them most dont clean them or even know they are there
 
I agree with the pilots too, but like Bullit01 suggested-- make sure you have spark to all three before tearing into the carbs. Could be as simple as a fouled plug (if you haven't already checked)
 
cleaned the carbs out again with no luck,thought a coil was shot but its not,spark on all 3,now we are thinkin maybe its the TPS?anyone else agree with this?
 
Which cylinder is dead, maybe a crank seal. I had a twin motor that would only idle on one cylinder and found the pto crank seal gone, replaced and now runs awesome. Good Luck.

tps wont cause a dead cyl problem,all it does is advance the timing during part throttle moderate to high speed crusing for better gas milage. have you checked compression and reeds on the affected cyl?
 
did you remove the pilot jets from the carbs??, can see light thru them??, then if you insert a carb cleaner tip into the pilot jet hole in the carb and squirt it, it should come out the small bleed hole inside the throat of the carb if the circuit is open. If you have not done this, the carbs are not clean! You cant just remove the bowls and spray cleaner on the bottoms. theres a thread on here carb cleaning 101, it shows you where and how to do it.
 
last year i came across this blond gal stranded on the mountain with a dead sled. towed her back to the shop, pulled her sled in and promptly went to work on it. 10 minutes later her sled was purring like new. she was amazed at how well it was running and wanted to know what was wrong. i told her it was simple, just "crap in the carbs". oh, great she replied, how many times a week do i have to do that?. sorry, couldnt resist.
