My 2000 Vmax 500 has a failed oil pump, burning a lot of oil. It is just a backup sled that will only get a couple hundred miles on it this winter. Any problem with just draining the injector oil tank, and pre-mixing the oil in the gas tank at fill up?
Thanks.

I would think that if the tank is drained of oil and the pump is still hooked up and running that it would then start to inject excess air into your fuel mixture.

Are you sure its not working? What makes you think its failed other than using a lot of oil. Have you checked your ratio to a tank of gas? Have you checked to make sure your cable adjustments are in spec.? I dont know the spec off hand but they are all pretty much the same. Do a search and you will find it. Daman did a couple good write ups on it. The guys above are also right, find out if/why your pump is not right. CCC

PS - Hey guys speaking of DAMAN, you would think he would be around soon hey!!!

I just went through the whole mess last year...... I just put my 3rd used pump on mine..... hope it works this time!!!

the twins are known for this issue, you cant rebuild the pump and finding a good used one is tough!!!

Goodluck!!! DAMAN is a great knowledge source for this issue, he helped me a lot!!! Definately read his Twin oil pump thread!!!

I'm looking for the link to the adjustment but if memory serves me..... the mark on the lever should stop 2mm before the mark on the pump.... and the adjustment is in the cable right about where it goes over the oil tank....

Thanks guys.
I did measure the oil to gas usage and confirmed it is using too much oil. I also already did the oil pump adjustment and checked the cables. I did print out Daman's instructions and I'll take another look at it.
