I know clutching comes up constantly on the forum but this year I am finally going to change the clutch as I hear it gives a fair amount of performance for the buck and would like to get some opinions on whats best.

I own a 2001 SRX and probably trail/lake ride 50/50 of the time on the sled. The sled is basically stock and since I will be tearing down to clean and prep everything for the upcoming season, I figured I would make some changes now.

This is listed on this site as a good trail/lake set up, would most agree or would anyone change anything? Please be specific on what you would change as I have only owned this sled 2 yrs but think its one of the greatest things I have ever owned...lol. Therefore I know every little about clutching.

48/42 Helix, 89a-10 weights w/2.4g rivets in inner hole, .8g rivet in the outer and stock springs.

I also plan on upping the gearing by one tooth to gain a little more top end speed.

What do you guys think? Do you see any problem with doing both?

Here's a good setup for trail/lake by YAMMIEGOD3:16

8BU-10 WEIGHTS.
4.5 RIVET IN TIP
4.5 RIVET INNER
50-40 HELIX @ 80
GREEN SPRING. NOTE :. MIGHT UNDER REV, SWITCH TO STOCK RED SPRING.
NOTE: I USE MAXXIMUM PERFORMANCE SRX SPRINGS. HARD TO FIND NOW. POSSIBLY W-W-W WOULD BE FINE. MIGHT NEED TO FINE TUNE ENGAGEMENT TO ATLEAST 4500 WITH A SHIM. REAL NICE ALL AROUND CLUTCH SETUP THAT REALLY PULLS HARD MID RANGE. WHISH I HAD LONG STRETCH TO REALLY FLY. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Huh?

So you are telling him that if it under revs he should change from a green spring in the secondary to a red one???? Interesting advice.

MATT, I RAN 110 IN 1000 F.T. WITH THAT EXACT SET-UP WITH MY 2002 SRX ON ICE. THIS WAS DONE ON STALKER RADER GUN AND A GPS ON MY SLED. DRIVER WAS 145 POUNDS. ITS NOT A QUESTION OF WHAT RPM WILL DO, ITS THE COMPLETE SET-UP I USED. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Not questioning the set up

Tony I'm not questioning the set up.....I'm questioning how under-rev could be cured by going to a WEAKER secondary spring...that's all. I know a little about those weights......I believe you bought them from me, didn't you?

Madmatt

SHURE ARE YOUR WEIGHTS. I OWE YA BIG THANK YOU FOR SELLING ME THOSE. BELIEVE IT OR NOT I HAD GREEN SPRING WITH THIS SET-UP AND THE RPM WAS SLIGHTLY OFF. SHURE ALOT COULD BE CAUSEING THIS. WEIGHTS, HELIX, etc. I INSTALLED STOCK RED SPRING WITH SAME TWIST, RPM WAS SPOT ON. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Straight 45 helix 70 degree twist
Stock Primary Spring
Green string
YWY stock
Only tested in yard grass.... Way faster than stock...
But im looking too radar 1000 and trailer..

YOU WILL NEVER BEAT MY 8BU-10 SET-UP IN 1000 F.T.WITH 8BU-00. IN A DRAG RACE YES, TOP SPEED, NO WAY. 3:16 (yammie tony)

don't u think 89a-10 will beat those 8bu-10 on top speed ;)!

NOPE!!! WELL REALLY SHOULD NOT SAY THAT. ALL COMES DOWN TO ONES SET-UP. ALTHOUGH I DID A 89A-10 SET-UP IN A 01 SRX AFEW YEARS BACK, 8BU-10 PULLED WAY HARDER. 3:16 (yammie tony)

what kinda 50-40 helix? Is this setup going to way under rev with a 250Lb guy on the sled?

50-40 I USE IN THAT SET-UP IS A MICRO- BELMONT.
8BU-10 - 45.41 GRAMS
89A-10 - 47.5 GRAMS
8DN-20 - 42. 0 GRAMS.
8BU-10, s HAVE SIMILAR PROFILE TO 8DN-20 , BUT HAVE MORE MASS IN CENTER OF THEM. 89A-10,s ARE GOOD WEIGHTS. KEEP IN MIND, ALWAYS HAVE TO TEST , NO MATTER WHAT CLUTCH SET-UP YOU GO WITH. 3:16 (yammie tony)
