I just bought a 98 Vmax 600 twin with a bad engine. The Mag side rod broke and destroyed the cases and mag side cylinder. It looks like it will be cheaper to just replace the engine vs. repairing. I am finding a bunch of 95/96 600 twins and was wondering if they will fit into the SX chassis without a bunch of fab work. I have also found a 97 500 twin but am unsure if the 600 pipe will work on this engine. ANY help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Pre 97' engines will not fit without fabbing. The 97 500 will bolt in no problem and uses the same exhaust. Another option would be to find a 600 or 700 red head triple which will bolt in but requires new exhaust, wire harness, carbs etc.

I had read on here somewhere that you can use the newer 97/98 cases and the 96 crank will fit in these cases...any truth to this??? I'm just having a really hard time finding a late model vmax engine or parts. Im guessing this engine was areal POS or had chronic crank issues...

I've got a decent set of cases from a 98. Have little bearing chatter. I've got the crank too, but it needs new outer bearings. If you interested shoot me a message and maybe we can work something out. Stuff is sitting a a buddies house a couple hours from me so I can't provide any pictures at this time.

I'd shop around for a deal on a 700 red head tripple and sell off the twin parts. You will be MUCH happier if you plan to ride this sled.

Musselman I PM'd ya.

I was not implying that the Redheads are powervalve engines I was stating that the engine I want powering my daughter needs to be a Non powervalve twin. I understand that a 600 redhead is smoother and more powerful than a 600 twin but I want her sled to be very "tame" and don't want to do a complete conversion to a tripple due to cost...this gets expensive quickly.
