anyone have any experience with a VK540? How heavy are they, quickness etc
the vk 540 is a heavy sled, but its designed that way. its a workhorse, not a racehorse. with its humongous track, your not going to win any drag races, unless the race is dragging something. you could almost pull a truck through the trees with one. this sled is designed and tuned as a utility sled, built to haul a half cord of wood, 18 passengers, and the ice fishing shanty in tow all in the same trip, including an oversized icechest.

LOL. Can it handle a limit of jumbos for all 18 on the return trip?
Or maybe you'd have to burn the half cord to compensate.
vk540 of any version is primarily a work sled. it can be trail ridden but would not be my 1st choice. excellent sled for ice fishing, breaking trail, trapping and hauling wood or drags. motors go forever as my uncle has a 1996 that finally needs rings. not quite as strong as the vkpro but a very well proven sled for all i described. when you get stuck, make shure you have a jack-all and a board as they are very heavy when loaded with snow and slush. takes a lot to stick one.
the tribal helmet is mine. the 96 is the sled on the right.

I'm not looking to trail ride it considering looking for one for icefishing. Just wondering what they are like for breaking trail/floatation as they are so big. Some of the lakes you need to climb some minor hills but you need to be able to move around trees are they nimble or a straight line sled?
not as nimble as a mountain sled but not too bad for the size of it. you have to use more body english to move it but it can be done. works really well breaking trail especially if it has the flotation ski skins on it. my uncle owns an 1988 and a 1996. just bought the 2001 in the pic from a buddy of his who just wanted a new sled.
